007hunter
I was walking throught the woods when I came across this yesterday. There were probably 30 or so under a tree I've never seen before. Its extremely hard, in fact I threw one against the tree and it just bounced off. Also it's about the size of a softball. Sorry the picture isn't better....

If you cut one open it's full of extremely sticky sap. I always pronounced it Bode Ark.

How many cases or should I say truck loads can I send you. They are rather heavy so shipping will cost extra. Good gosh! If that's true and people will actually buy them, I'm sitting on a gold mine! Master_Chief
Re: What is it? Hedge apple. Put them in your basement and you will not have spiders. We put them under the house/by our weekend place and we have no problems at all.

GWSmith
Re: What is it? 007 Knows what I'm talking about I sent him a PM.... But do any of you remember what Brad Harris RT Prostaffer does with these on one of his older Lohman videos??? He rubs them on his hunting clothes when he's hunting near these trees and has even taken some home and boiled them, rendered off the juice and uses it as a cover scent. Strut10
Re: What is it? Osage orange....yep. Also heard the hedge apples and monkey balls. The wood from the Osage orange tree is highly prized for making longbows. Makes a mean turkey call, too.

toddyboman
Re: What is it? THe tree that the hedge ball comes from is a VERY HARD wood!! All the names are common names for the tree and balls it drops. The only other one I have heard of is the green brain. We cut the trees down and use the straight pieces for post for our fences. Like I said they are hard and last a long time. The hedge ball is good for keeping bugs away. I tend to collect them and put them in my basement. Didnt know people would buy them, geeze I could retire early if I start selling them lol I have also heard the deer will eat them (hedge ball) too, only after the squirells have started to shred them. Oh one more thing the hedge ball is good for... SHOOTING. They explode when hit kinda cool especialy since they are EVERYWHERE around here.
