I want to be able to shoot some long distance shots...... say around 300 yds or so....... some recoil is ok but not too much....... and dont want to spend a whole bunch for ammo..... Ammo prices will be a little better on the 243, but the 25-06 will have a little better power down range. Both are ligitimate 300 yard deer guns. AJ Posted November 21, 2006 Report Share Posted November 21, 2006 Re: what to get...... Anything from 243 Win, 6mm Rem, 25-06 Rem, 257 Roberts, will fit the bill for both if you need factory ammo. If you handload, you can get by with the 260 Rem, 6.5x55 Sweede, 270 Win, 7-08 Rem, 280 Rem, 308 Win, and 30-06. Personally I would lean towards the 243 Win or 6mm Rem as they are superb varmint cartridges and can hold their own on deer out to 300 yards.
