mag1
I need some advice on a possible jacket purchace for late season Bow hunting in wis. My current gear, wool pants, good long underwear, have worked well, but my jacket needs some upgrading. I have a Filson Double Mack Cruiser. (Wool) which worked ok, but I'm growing out of it. With 2 sweaters under, I cannot pull the bow back, and the wind still comes thru it. I have sat in -20*F, but got pretty cold in 1.5 hrs. I was wondering if anybody has used any good, silent, light weight(not heavy to pack in) type jackets? I'm hunting an area where the wind will blow in my stand. My ski jacket, thinsulate and gore tex under a blaze shell is great for gun, but makes way to much noise. Any input would be helpful. Most of my hunts involve a 3/4 - 1.5 mile walk in thru swamp, off trail, (with treestand, pack, steps) so weight is a concern. Sorry for the long ?, but any input would be appreciated. Thanks
M00N
Re: Late Season COLD Weather Gear ? on Jackets - W I'd look at the Cabela's MT050 Series, Revolution Fleece Series, and the Bowhunter Xtreme SST Series for quiet coldweather hunting gear. Go to a nearby store and try some of it on to get a snug fit to prevent any loose clothing articles that your bow string may hit or look at the Camoskinz compression sleeve to compress the sleeve on your holding arm so the string doesn't hit the sleeves. Stinger-Hunter
Re: Late Season COLD Weather Gear ? on Jackets - W I have a couple suggestions for you. UnderArmour cold weather top with a thick wool sweater over it. Cabelas 4-1 Duck hunting jacket Also, make sure with your wool sweater that you aren't wearing cotton under it. This will defeat the purpose of the wool. I sat in -8 degree weather with a big smile on my face for 4 hours last year. the jacket will keep the wind out, the wool will keep the warmth in and the cold weather under armour will wick the sweat away from your body. It's a good combo. The duck jacket is good because they built it knowing that there would be cold wind coming off the water and it is relatively quiet. bigmoss
Re: Late Season COLD Weather Gear ? on Jackets - W Where we hunt in Canada it can be -10 or more while hunting and I suggest a Sportchief jacket and pants VERY warm and waterproof. It will be the last thing you ever buy. http://www.sportchief.com/en-catalogue.php?menu=

craig mack
Re: Late Season COLD Weather Gear ? on Jackets - W I have Cabelas MT050. Its waterproof with scentlok. I wear a layer of thermals and then a Gore windstopper garment underneath the MT050 outer wear. It keeps me warm in the Western U.P. in november.
