An Antlered Doe

You guys are going to think I am full of it, but, I just saw on my local news this morning that a guy in Sarcoxie, MO shot a 28 point deer this weekend. When he found it he realized it was a DOE. I heard about it the other day but thought it was a bunch of bunk. Then this morning I saw it on the news. I tried to find the story on the net but was unable to do so. I will keep looking and post a link when I find it. I have never heard of an antlered doe before. Has anyone out there come across something like this?

Re: An Antlered Doe

Most antlered does are pseudohermaphrodite (both genders) and stay in velvet or near velvet year round. They will have some female organs and some male organs it's a toss up which ones they get and don't get. Most "antlered doe" when examined or DNA tested turned out to be pseudohermaphrodites. The deer examined and tested to see if it isn't either a buck that just had some issues with his reproductive organs not developing correctly, a pseuodhermaphrodite deer, or a true antlered doe (would have to have some sort of issue with an organ that controls testosterone levels).

Re: An Antlered Doe

I've personally seen two like that. About 5 years ago one of my buddies dad shot one in velvet on the first day of rifle season in December. No male organs whatsoever.

About 3 weeks ago another one of my buddies shot one in archery season also in velvet. That one had some of the male body parts, but not all of them.

Re: An Antlered Doe

I've seen the pics of it have them at work here but they are just on a piece of copy paper that I have no way of scanning. The deer has a wild rack with one of the points coming down along the side of the deers face. It is still in full velvet. It is getting a lot of news around here. I've heard rumors that Bass Pro is wanting it.

Re: An Antlered Doe

there was a doe shot in my hometown about 2 years ago by a young kid during archery season. it weighed in at just under 230 lbs. and had 12 points. it was very cool but very ugly deer.

but it was a great story to read in the paper.

hey i wouldnt mind shooting one because i think it would be a great story for camp and a great trophy.
