Re: how long was your shortest hunt?

my shortest "legal time" hunt was about 1 second. I arrived in my tower with about 30 minutes until legal shooting time. There was just enough light to see a couple deer feeding on my food plot. With about 5 minutes to go until legal shooting time two bucks started sparring on the plot. I raised my gun and started scoping the two bucks picking out the biggest one. That 5 minutes seemed like forever but as soon as my watch turned like 6:42am i fired. By 6:42 and 5 seconds the deer was on the ground.

15 min was my shortest. drove all the way to camp to hunt that afternoon before the weekend. walked to my latter stand. climbed the tree. nocked an arrow. saw the monster buck walking in from behind me. i turned and he turned and i drew back and let it fly. dropped 50 yards away.

love it when its so unexpected.

Re: how long was your shortest hunt?

If you count the walk in to my hunting spot, 30 minutes. If you count how long I was sitting, 10 minutes, and the deer dropped in his tracks. That was last year. I was surrounded by hunters on all sides just out of view except the spot where the deer came from. The deer were thinking they'd just sneak right down the middle between all the other hunters, but didn't realize I was there waiting. The hunters never even knew they were there, but I'm sure soon as I shot they all had their guns ready. I know my father who was hunting a ridge up from my ridge dropped his two-way and couldn't find it because he jumped out his skin just about when I pulled the trigger because he was just starting to sit down in his hunting spot. Couldn't have been a more exciting hunt because the trio that I shot my deer out of went straight up to my father, they could went to any of the other hunters around on either side of me or even back down the middle where they came from, but instead they picked the path right to my father and he managed to harvest the big doe out of the two that were left. grin.gif

Re: how long was your shortest hunt?

My 2x2 this year was my 2nd shortest hunt. I was only in my spot for about 15-20 minutes before the buck walked in.

My shortest hunt was approx. 3 minutes, if that, from the time I actually got into my stand until the time I made the shot. I was just pulling my bow up after adjusting my facemask, and out he walked, going to my scent I had just placed before the climb up. I had also bleated a doe call, before I pulled up my bow. grin.gif

back in 1987 went on an evening hunt...got out of my truck loaded my rifle took about 10 steps looked up and a buck was dogging a doe right my way ....they passed within 10 yards ...i put my sighs on him pulled the trigger hit him in the back and down he went...so i'd say maybe 3-5 minutes...

Re: how long was your shortest hunt?

I was actually driving out to my spot on public ground.Theres two drieways about 1/4 mile apart and I always parked in the far one. That day I seen a big doe on the other side of the ditch by the first driveway, she was feeding behind a pile of dirt they had pushed up there.I parked on the shoulder, walked across the ditch, crawled up the dirtpile and shot her with y bow.She ran about 60 yrds and fell over.Fro the time I seen her till the time she tipped over couldnt have been more then about 90 seconds grin.gif

Re: how long was your shortest hunt?

My shortest sit time ever was under 2 minutes. Me and my buddy climbed up into a stand and before he got to the top I was already up about 20 does came by. (This was 3 years ago in PA) We both got a shot off and got a few does. That will be tough to beat for us now.

Re: how long was your shortest hunt?

My shortest hunt ever was exactly 1 minute. About 7 years ago I overslept for a November rut hunt I had been looking forward to all week. It was 8:30 in the morning when I woke up, I was so disgusted with myself I didn't even take a shower, I just packed my stuff real quick & drove to my land. I got there, parked & sorta moped to my stand. It was exactly 9:15 a.m. when I climbed into a stand over looking a corn field. THE MOMENT by butt hit the chair a big 9 point crashed out of the woods with his nose straight up in the air like he was smelling for does. He was 50 yards from me & I took the shot with my Rem 7400 .06. He ran in a 20 yard circle & fell dead exactly where I shot him. I looked at my watch it was 9:16 a.m.

As crazy as it sounds that's the shortest hunt I've ever been on.

Re: how long was your shortest hunt?

1st hunt on my father-in-laws property (currently mine now) and I knew of 3 others who had his permission to hunt it as well.

I go in WAY before legal light to get in my ladder stand so things would settle down before game time. From my perch on the side of the ridge I could see the gate threw the tress and saw them arrive right before legal. I am not very happy since I knew it would put them coming past me a few minutes before legal light thus most likely spooking everything for 1/2 mile.

I knew the path they took up into the woods and waited for them to get by and be quiet. I was surprized they were not that loud and I still had a few minute of peace before it hit.

Legal light approaching fast and I hear "another hunter" crashing up the ridge behind me.

I stand up, turn around, and saying out loud being discused with his timing.

"How many freakin hunters are there up here?!?"

I mean loud enough so this guy can hear me from where I was.

I then cringe when I notice its a nice little 6 pointer about 50 yards behind me. I check the watch and its 1 minute past legal.

Bang-dead.

The thing that sucked about that is I arranged for 2 weeks of vacation many many months in advance, packed an all day lunch, I was there for the long haul. LOL
