LifeNRA
I got my fathers 454 Casull. Instructions say to move point of impact to the RIGHT, turn COUNTER-CLOCKWISE! Now I have been shooting a wheel gun for more than 15 years. I know which way to move the rear sight adjustment. The screw was just about off, and the POI was still 12" to far to the left! Shooting at 25 yards, and getting groups about 2.5-3"! I have no problems keeping and maintaining groups. I am at a loss here. I did notice the metal pin that goes through the rear is loose. Also, I can get a very small amount of movement from the front sight. But, to be off that far?!?!? I believe this weapon needs to have a scope installed, and the iron sights need to be removed! So unless I get a doe within 25 yards, there will be no handgun deer for me this year! I was really looking forward to using the 454 and getting my first handgun deer, along with my first bow deer in one year! Any ideas??? VTbowman
Re: Can Not Get Sighted In!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! I have to agree that a scope is in order. If your running out of adjustment then your not doing something right but what that may be is anyones guess as we can not see you shooting. Maybe your canting the gun slightly with your hold/grip...??? Good luck.
hangunnr
Re: Can Not Get Sighted In!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! I'm sure you already know this but you move the rear sight the direction you want the bullet to go. Are you sure the windage blade in the rear sight is actually moving? Is the front sight windage adjustable? Is is fixed or on a dovetail? hangunnr

Good luck. [/ QUOTE ] Resting on sand bags and gun was in a good vertical postion. [ QUOTE ] I'm sure you already know this but you move the rear sight the direction you want the bullet to go. [/ QUOTE ] Yes, it was moving to the right the entire time. The adjustment screw was almost out completely! [ QUOTE ] Are you sure the windage blade in the rear sight is actually moving? [/ QUOTE ] Yes it was! I even turned back the other way to make it back in center before I left. [ QUOTE ] Is the front sight windage adjustable? Is is fixed or on a dovetail? [/ QUOTE ] Its in a dovetail. I checked to see if the front sight was moving. I did feel a slight click type feeling in it when I pushed from side to side. Ill still be taking my .357 along, but I wont be shooting at any deer unles they are REALLY close! Under 25 yards, because they are IRON SIGHTS as well! I HATE IRON SIGHTS! I was really looking forward to using this handgun for a doe! It would have been a first, two times for me this year! Not sure what I an going to do yet! Rifle season opens tomorrow, the 270 is sighted in, but I might still take the bow! I have about 12 hours to make a decision! Thanks guys! hangunnr
Re: Can Not Get Sighted In!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! If the front sight is in a dove tail try moving it the opposite directioin you were movin the rear sight. This could easily get you centered and allow fine tuning with the rear sight. I have an iron sighted 1911 that has the front sight offcentered. This was the only way I was able to use it. Give that a try before you give up. hangunnr
LifeNRA
Re: Can Not Get Sighted In!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! I see a pin in the front of the barrel right below the front sight. Its inside about 1/32". Must that pin be removed? But I never gave that a thought about moving the front sight! I guess I would have to move it the opposite direction from the rear sight? If the rear sight needs to move right, then the front sight would have to left?
hangunnr
Re: Can Not Get Sighted In!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! What make of gun do you have? Can you post a picture of the front sight? Yes, you would move the front sight the opposite direction you were moving the rear sight. It dosen't take much movement to make a huge movement in bullet impact. hangunnr
LifeNRA
Re: Can Not Get Sighted In!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! Ruger Super Redhawk .454 Casull 7 1/2" barrel. Sorry been out hunting the last two days, so far nothing came close enough for a pistol shot, which is good for me! LOL!
hangunnr
Re: Can Not Get Sighted In!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! I don't believe the front sight is adjustable on your gun. I would return the gun to Ruger with a full description as to what you've experienced. There is the remote possibility that the barrel is indexed improperly or mis-aligned. It should be easy for them to rectify. hangunnr
