TC Shockwave bullets?

Re: TC Shockwave bullets?

I started using a Remington 700ML years ago. It would NOT shoot well past 50 yards. This is a scoped gun too.

I tried everything and anything to include the very popular power belts. Nothing seemd to work for me.

I tried the shockwaves and got 1.5" groups at 100 yards.

I stuck with them when I started using an Encore 209x50 15" pistol.

I achieved the same sized groups at the same distance!

This is with a scoped pistol mind you.

My brother bought a TC Omega this summer and naturally I turned him onto the shockwaves.

He has NEVER fired a rifle, no less bench shot at anything.

This is his very 1st firearm ever.

Within 15 shots he had 2.5" groups at 100 yards.

I swear by them...

BUT!

It all depends on your specific gun, load, shooting style, etc..

Some guns love this sabot, some dont.

Thats how it is with any ML or sabot/projectile.

They are definately worth the try IMHO...

Good Luck.

Re: TC Shockwave bullets?

The 250gr SST from Hornady is my current go-to bullet and it is private labeled to TC as the Shockwave. That is unless you are talking about the "bonded" Shockwave which has a bonded core.

The 250gr SST gives spectacular results in my Savage at smokeless velocities. No deer have taken a step beyond bullet impact to just shy of 150yds using that combo. I think that it is better suited to the velocities of BP-powered ML's however. It'd rank right up there with the best of them IMHO.

Re: TC Shockwave bullets?

I shot Hornadys through my Knight for about 4 years and while they shot good I had trouble getting them to group well at longer ranges.

Last year I had my wife buy some while she was in town and she accidently grabbed my the 250 grain shockwaves.I immediately started getting better results, and could hit consistently out well past 100 yrds.

I got a CVA wolf last year and tried sighting it in twice with some left over Hornadys I found.I couldnt get the bullets to hit anywhere close to each other even up close.I gave up after two failed attempts to sight it in and used my Knight for the rest of the season.

This year I tried the same gun, sae powder load and a 250 grain Shockwave Spire Point.Ive gotten the best groups Ive ever had with a muzzleloader, three shots close enough to cover up with your thumb so far out to about 100 yrds.I havent tried longer ranges cuz I dont generally shoot deer much past 50 yrds anyway.

Re: TC Shockwave bullets?

Well, I get what I would consider unsurpassed accuracy with both the 200 gr.(took two doe at ranged distances of 255 and 262 yards and yes I practice alot at these distances) and 250 gr. shockwaves. All of the deer I have shot with these bullets have died in less than ten steps. I shoot shoulders. The potential problem I see is very few pass throughs. Upon getting through the first should they are breaking up causing terrible internal damage. My concern is on if I do get one that walks away the blood trail might be minimal. Anyone use the bonded and still get the same accuracy? I shoot 100 grns. 777 loose behind the 200 and 120 grns behind the 250.

Re: TC Shockwave bullets?

This was my 1st year muzzleloading and I also shoot an Omega. Tried 250 gr. Hornadys with 100 gr pellets and could not get good groups. Switched over to 250 gr shockwaves and loose pyrodex powder. Nice 1 1/2 to 2 inch groups and nailed a nice 8 pointer 1st day out. Seems my gun likes a 125gr of powder. I won't shoot anything else.
