johnf
Re: Barrel Rust I would take a brass brush and bore butter to it and clean it untill rust stopped coming out. Shoot it a few times at 25-50 yards and see what kind of pattern you get. If you can keep a good pattern go out to 100. If it's still ok (3-4") I would say you're ok. Guest HaDeRonDa
Re: Barrel Rust Ok, here goes but do not get this on your blueing!!!! Use toilet bowl cleaner called THE WORKS! The sink version is a little less volatile. Put some on a patch and run it slowly down the barrel. Your rust will disappear!!! It may take a few patches but it will go away. Then flush with plenty of water and swab with a good oil. Then go shoot it and see what group you get. You surely do not want to push rust over and over down that barrel. Just shooting it will do just that!!! A brass brush will work as John said but it will do no good to the real nasty stuff. A combination of both may be what the Dr. Ordered. 1997xltlimited
Re: Barrel Rust do you think this method will take rust pits out of the barrel, besides just the rust. I hope so!!!!!!!!!!!
Guest shotist
Re: Barrel Rust Pits are there for the duration. Once that metal is eroded away, it cannot be put back.
Guest Xen
Re: Barrel Rust just get a long drill bit, slightly larger than your bore and smooth it all out... sorry, couldn't help myself
1997xltlimited
Re: Barrel Rust Ok, Rust is out, but the barrell is pitted pretty bad. Its an traditions fox river 50 cal I believe. If I had to, can you get new barrell for this gun or used ones? And how much would that be? johnf
Re: Barrel Rust My guess would be more than you bought the gun for. Only shooting it will tell the tale.
Guest HaDeRonDa
Re: Barrel Rust 1997, If you have not shot it yet. GO do it.!!!! Tell us how it shot. We'll tell you to keep it or junk it!!! But that decision is truely up to you. If you can be satisfied with the way it shoots. Do not invest in a new barrel. 1997xltlimited
Re: Barrel Rust I have shot it about 15 times now.... It shoots about 4-5 inches to the left at 50 yards. Up and down is finde but consistantly left.It doesnt have very good sights, and they dont move very well so its really hard to tell how to shoot when its almost impossible to move the sights. I will find out more this weekend when I shoot it again. Thanks
johnf
Re: Barrel Rust If it's drilled and tapped I would put a red dot on it and try to see what kind of pattern I could get.

Guest HaDeRonDa
Re: Barrel Rust Does it shoot a good group at that 50 yds? If so then you have to work on moving those sights. If not you will have to trake other actions that could be costly.
