too_pointer
As you know, I'm buying a Savage .17 hmr next week and still deciding on a scope. BSA is ruled out. I found a Simmons Varmint 6.5-20x40. I would like some opinions if you have one on this line of scopes. Thanks. too_
ousoonerfan22
Re: scope for .17hmr ? I would buy a Burris Fullfield II or a Nikon Pro Staff or the Buckmaster.
too_pointer
Re: scope for .17hmr ? I will probably get another Nikon in the future, trying to stay a little on the cheaper sider for now Or I could buy a nice scope and wait till later for the rifle LOL too_
Guest Colorado Bob
Re: scope for .17hmr ? Seems ,like a pretty big scope for a rifle that will shoot out to 200 yards. I put a 3x9 Cabela's on mine---works good on prairie dogs. With scopes you get what you pay for. I put a cheap one on my 17. I only hunt prairie dogs with it. Nice sunny days. So a cheap scope is plenty. My real hunting rifles wear Leupolds. CB

lil hunter
Re: scope for .17hmr ? I don't think I'd go more than a 12 power or so on a 17hmr. I have a 3-9 on mine, and wish I had something a little bigger, but it doesn't need to be in the 20's. If I was doing it again I'd put the Nikon Prostaff 4-12 power scope on it. Guest Colorado Bob
Re: scope for .17hmr ? pointer---it has to be a windless day. But prairie dogs fear me !! CB
too_pointer
Re: scope for .17hmr ? LOL sounds good to me. I have ordered a 6.5-20x40 simmons varmint scope from Cabela's. It should be fine. I appreciare all your help. too_

I can take my .17 and kill doves at about 200 yds all day long..... and usually shoot their heads off...... I have a Prostaff 3X9X40 Nikon on mine and love it...... too_pointer
Re: scope for .17hmr ? I agree with the opinions on this. I will have to play with the .17 till I decide what the make of ammo does the best for me ! too_

DannoBoone1
Re: scope for .17hmr ? Well, I put a 3-9x40 Bushnell Trophy on mine and am very pleased with it. The stainless Marlin has taken crows out at 165yds. Place your shots (either head or lung) on squirrels & rabbits, and you will have plenty of meat left. My rifle likes the Hornady 17gr ammo the best.
