[/ QUOTE ] Anything considered more dangerous than usual like a machine gun or a silencer would require a special license. The license usually requires a more in depth background check and some sort of a tax. I think this varies depending on the state. Also there might be special requirement that would need to be met. For instance, I know in Virginia in order to have a machine gun you have to meet with the top local law enforcement in the area and explain why you need a machine gun and he has to sign off otherwise, you have to go to a high state official.
