that the (Baseball) MVP should chosen from a team that goes to the playoffs?

Pujols believes that the NL MVP should come from team that goes to the playoffs. He is upset that Howard won the MVP and he didn't I guess.

In my opinion the MVP should be the best player in the league. Not the best player in the playoffs.

Re: Who here thinks..

All professional players are whiners. Thats why I hate pro athletes and pro sports. They all ( most of them anyways ) have crappy attitudes and think WE owe them something. I'd like to see the lot of them get tossed out on their duffs to make a living in the real mans world and see if they still whined like they do.

Re: Who here thinks..

I think Puljos needs to just shut up and quit whining. He just won a World Series, what is better then that? Is he so selfish that his season isnt complete without an MVP award? Not only that, but Philly had a better regular season record and would have went to the playoffs over the Cards if they were in the same division.

Re: Who here thinks..

i think he has a right to be angry about not winning...he had a good enough season to deserve it....but howard had just a slightly better one...but to go as far as saying the should only give it to players who's team makes the playoffs is rediculous...besides, they vote on it before the playoffs begin...

Re: Who here thinks..

It's MVP of the regular season, not the playoffs.

That being said, Pujols does have a point. How good the team does should be a factor.

I would've given the MVP to Pujols.

Howard is a good hitter, but let's see how he adjusts to the way pitchers start pitching him now.

It doesn't matter how you pitch Pujols....he's gonna hit ya.

Re: Who here thinks..

I'll take it a step further. The MVP should be the guy who's most valuable to his team. If you take a guy like Travis Hafner out of the Tribe's lineup, the team is significantly worse. The same goes for Howard.

Most teams that make the playoffs have a lot of good players, so obviously, removing the best hitter from that team may not have as big of an impact as taking a guy like Hafner or Howard away from their teams.

It's M-V-P, not B-E-S-T.

While i agree, it never goes that way. A few interesting stats:

Pujols finished the season 3rd in the NL in batting avg., 2nd in HR's, 2nd in RBI's, 1st in on base percentage, 1st in slugging percentage, and 1st in batting avg. with runners in scoring position. (Howard finished 51st in BAWRISP). With runners in scoring position and 2 outs, Pujols hit .435 vs .247 for Howard.

Pujols hit a Major league record 20 game winning Home Runs vs. 9 for Howard.

Defensively, Pujols had a Sabermetric defensive rating in fielding runs above replacement of +25 vs. - 5 for Howard.

A few more Sabermetric statistics:

Pujols was 1st in the National League in value over replacemant, win shares, equivalent avg., runs created and win probability added.

Last, but not least, Pujols missed several weeks of the season with a strained oblique or his HR and RBI total(49 & 137) would have been even better.

While Pujols did come off a bit whiney, the bottom line is, a guy who hits 58 HR's and has 149 RBI's has no reason to apologize for winning the MVP, but statistically, a case could be made for Pujols winning the MVP. wink.gif

Definitely correct. Pujols can adjust to anything. Will easily go down as one of the best hitters ever.

Pujols is a good hitter also. I think pitchers will have better knowledge of how to pitch him after this year, however i think howard will be able to adjust. Reason being, is that he hits the ball with power to all fields

Re: Who here thinks..

Both are great players, but Pujols plays on a way better team than Howard. The Phillies gave up on their season at the trade deadline when they dealt Abreu. Thats when Howard carried that team almost to a playoff berth. To me Ryan Howard deserved it. I like Pujols but he just won the world series and he's whining about an individual award. I bet Ryan Howard would trade with him in a minute.
