Gloves, question for you Cold weather people.

I went out last night in some really nasty weather. @20 degrees F. with 20-40mph winds, freezing rain and sleet. I've got some new insulated water proof stuff my wife got me for Christmas last year. I was amazed how worm it kept me, but my hands nearly froze. I was wearing waterproof insulated gloves and they just didn't work real well, but with anything heavier I don't think I could get my finger in the trigger guard.

Would I be better off wearing lighter gloves and keeping my hands in a muff with a couple hand warmers in there?

Got some gore tex thisulate gloves I rarely use, if ever I do use them usually only wear the left glove. Handwarmer pockets in the parka with the thinsulate lining keeps my hands nice and warm up until I pull them out to take a shot or use my calls or binos.

Thats what I do! I wear a thin pair of gloves and have a Cabela's muff with just one hand warmer! I hate to grab my rifle with a bulky pair of gloves on!

The only gloves I use are the cheap, $2 Whitewater camo gloves. They aren't insulated or anything, just the basic cotton type. I just use handwarmers. I have never used insulated gloves that kept my hands warm, so I go the cheap route.

i have done the light gloves with muff thing, works good, i also have a pair of gloves that are the mitten type but flip back so the fingers are "free" and not confined to just the mitten, they are not the type where your fingers are exposed either, they are just like a regular glove connected to a mitten, and you can put a hand warmer in the mitten part too

Re: Gloves, question for you Cold weather people.

I use an old crappy muff and put in 3 ro 4 hand warmers.

I wear nothing but military issue Olive drab flight gloves. They have a thin grey leather covering the entire palm and inside of all fingers and backed with the OD green material.

You can get them at the local Army/Navy stores. They are great for bowhunting in Oct for that fine touch we need on our releases, and very good for rifle hunting in Nov.

I tend to keep my hands inside my pockets; with a single hand warmer on colod days, until it gets real cold, then I use the muff with multiple warms inside it.

I only hunt in NW Vermont near the Canada border so our hunting season go from mild to below zero.

I use a pair of fleece gloves...

..inside of a pair of Glommits with a handwarmer in the end.

If your wearing gloves that are too small it will decrease the circulation of the body's anti-freeze(blood) to your fingertips.

I wear the Fleece gloves under the flipback style mittens.

I've found most of the mittens, even the large sizes, to have the half finger portion stitched slightly too small. All I do is make small cuts at the base of the finger section to relax the tightness and allow for the needed room of wearing the "Liner" type fleece glove underneath.

With the handwarmer in the flip-back section my hands stay warm in sub-zero weather and I can easily flip-back the mitten if I see deer coming into the area.

John.......

Just go to Wally-World or Dick's and get a $3 pair of polypropylene glove liners and wear them inside the gloves you have. I bowhunt deep into the -0 range with these under nothing more than a pair of cotton Jersey gloves. wink.gif The liners themselves are worthless. Gotta have them on under gloves. Always carry a warmer pack or two though in case of emergency. wink.gif

I got a pair of really lightweight gloves. I like to call it "Wal-Mart underarmer" They have a "Rocky" lable on them, but I couldn't find them on the Rocky sight. I got a muff and put one of the big body warmer "Hot Hands" in it and it worked great.
