How Long?

Re: How Long?

I have watched two different tests just this year. One done on an old barrel the other on a lawn mower blade. The mower blade had about all the popular powders represented. They both had real black powder, and pyrodex. The results of these two tests and one done a couple of years ago have made me a firm believer in cleaning my rifles ASAP. The worst offender was Pyrodex RS. Guess the RS really does stand for Rust Starter. They also taped a small amount of each powder without burning it and in about a month nothing had happened to the steel. But Both BP and Pyrodex had began to rust with Pyrodex beginning to develope scale and pitting. The 777 was just beginning to show signs of corrosion in that time.

Well, y'all will be happy to know that my gun sat loaded for a month and fired just fine Wednesday morning.

Of course, I missed, but that's another thread. grin.gif

And where can we find that "another thread"? grin.gif

I'll get right on that--you just keep looking. grin.gif

I have handled guns with loads left in them over a year and they still shot great. I would not recommend this with a fouled bore as it will cause some pitting. I left my gun loaded until:

1. I took a shot at a deer.

2. I hunted in the rain.

3. End of the season.

Same here and I use the bullet puller.
