when it comes to your style of deer hunting, whether you consider yourself a trophy hunter, meat hunter or just a deer hunter, how good at it would you say you are?

I really think that it takes a hunter many years of experience in the woods to reach their full pontential.

I've been hunting for over 25 years and by no means am I saying I'm a great hunter, but I've came a long ways since the days of setting under the first white oak I could find.

This post even make any sense? laugh.gif

Re: How good are you?

Pretty crappy this year. LOL

Nuttin but tag soup on my winter menu if I can not get it done during ML season.

0 for 2 so far this year.

I normally get my limit and I consider myself an OK deer hunter.

Meat hunter sounds like an excuse as to why your unable to be a trophy hunter. LOL

Trophy hunter is basically out of the question where I am from...

I shoot whats legal and eat it...

Re: How good are you?

I think I'm an ok deer hunter.

I'll shoot any adult Muledeer that gives me an opp.

I passed on two 125 class & one 135 class Whitetails so I guess I'm a trophy hunter when in comes to them.Saskatchewan has lots of anterless tags available for both Wt & Md so I'm not giving any free passes to the gals

Re: How good are you?

I hunt because I enjoy it and I do pass on several deer each and every year, but I am not a true trophy hunter and not really a meat hunter either. I have learned so much over the past 14 years or so and am still learning. I like to think I do get better as I gain knowledge.

Re: How good are you?

I've been doing this for 28 years, And I know we have alot more info available to us now. I'm a hunter, depends on where I'm at for the trophy hunting. If I'm in Montana, I want a good one. If I'm in Pa. My standards go way down. I prefer Bow hunting, but still take the rifle out once in a while for a change. I also take a flint lock on occasion, The doe I took with that smoking choking thing I called a trophy. LOL

Re: How good are you?

Over the past 4 years of hunting ive learned a little as of what not to do and could work. As far as being a meat hunter or a trophy hunter im a little of both id say i pass on deer but ill take smaller ones. I can say i just hunt to be in the outdoors i dont give a crud if i dont kill a deer every season or multiple deer every season.

Re: How good are you?

I've not killed a buck the past 3 years with my bow, but did pass up several shots.

Did get one with the rifle last year.

Always learning....you'd think I'd be better by now blush.gifconfused.gifgrin.gif

Re: How good are you?

I have hunted primarily with a bow from the ground for the last 4 years.I find its much more exciting, but its a never ending learning process.I kill deer each year this way but still manage to run off far more then I get in range.Out of dozens of stalks on bigger bucks Ive only managed to kill one.I guesse Im about average, and probably will never reach a point where I feel Im great at this style of hunting.Every scenarios a little different and theres always going to be something you cant forsee

I'd say I'm a meat hunter, and a deer hunter also. First of all, I enjoy being outdoors, but it's always nice having meat in the freezer for the family.
