Guest MoHntr
Re: How good are you? I'm primarily a meat hunter - till a TROPHY comes by then I'm a TROPHY hunter!!! They always suprise me - about the time you think you have something figured out in their routine - they do just the opposite!!

Strut10
Re: How good are you? I used to be a "deer hunter" and I got darned good at it. So I switched to a "trophy hunter" and I'd rate myself as fair, I guess. However, I do get at least one doe tag each year which makes me a "meat hunter", too. I'm pretty dangerous in that category. BOHNTR
Re: How good are you? I've been bowhunting for almost 30 years now. Just when I'm starting to think I'm getting pretty good at it......the big bucks remind me who's really good.

craig mack
Re: How good are you? [ QUOTE ] No matter how good I think I am at deer hunting...they never miss a chance to humble me [/ QUOTE ] I agree. I never shot a "book" buck, but I've shot plenty of nice deer for the areas I hunt. I started thinking I was the man until last year when I didnt get a nice one. They will humble you every time. Brianxt
Re: How good are you? I think I'm am better hunter than the people in my comunity.I'm no trophy hunter I will pass on smaller bucks .I think alot off my success is knowing the way deer move in the woods I hunt. The deer I hunt change there movements when rifle hunter hit the woods.I have seen the way they change there patterns and it helps me to get on deer .Some of areas dont get deer movement at all during bow seasone. But soon as rifles go to poping I were to be.I have see deer bed down and let hunters walk or ride rite by and the hunter never had a clue the deer was there. They are a smart animal but I am so familar with my property that I can honestly say I could put any one on deer in my neck of woods.I think knowing the woods in my area like the Back my hand is what makes me a great hunter. Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: How good are you? I think location can make a hunter look better or worse than he actually is. For example, I'm lucky enough to hunt a well managed ranch with a healthy herd, a good buck to doe ratio, and a significant number of mature bucks. I could easily take two (my legal limit) 10 pointers that would score around 130 - 140 every season, and that might make me a "great" hunter in some people's eyes. But what I'm looking for is a trophy animal. I don't kill many, in fact I'm lucky to get one every 4 or 5 years, and based on that, others might judge me to be average at best, or maybe even below average, since I only succeed in my primary goal 20 - 25% of the time. But I do take my share of does and the ocassional management buck.
Dogg6
Re: How good are you? Meat hunter first, trophy hunter 2nd. I have learned a lot over the last 23 years. Some years are just better than others. This year everything went my way. Last year didn't get a thing with the bow. All anyone can do is keep putting time in and enjoying the outdoors and the time on the hunt.
