AvonLKHunter
I am brand new to this sport and I am very interested in buying a gun. I went and looked at the different brands yesterday at Gander Mtn. I was instantly in love with the TC Pro Hunter. I like the crack barrel better than the Omega just did not like the price. I will not be changing the barrels here in Ohio since we can not use a rifle. Why is the Encore $700 + and other brand guns that crack open are $200+. I have never killed a deer with a gun and I went on opening day of gun season and had a good time. I missed 3 deer with my shotgun. i would like to get a ML and a scope and practice this year so i will be ready for next years gun and ML season. Thanks for any help. Guest bowhunter56
Re: NEED HELP WITH PICKING A ML Do you research, read about them all, sometimes the most expensive is not always the best. They have different barrel length, different ways to insert the primer, different barrel twist, look for ease of cleaning, i don't recommend bolt, just one more thing to clean(the bolt). Some guns you have to shoot sabots, do you want .45 or .50, gonna shoot loose powder or pellets, I have an cva optima, .50 breaks open, easy primer install and removal, just remove the breech plug for cleaning, i like loose 777, my gun shot 95 grains, better than 100, with pellets it's either 50 100 or 150, you can't play with a load, but alot of guys have great success with pellets, it's a personal thing, just do your research, talk to others that have them, talk to the fellows at the stores. Loads of info here on the internet...good luck.

too_pointer
Re: NEED HELP WITH PICKING A ML There are many muzzleloaders that are great out there. I would decide how much you want to invest in one first, and remember a scope also if you plan on buying one. too_
horst
Re: NEED HELP WITH PICKING A ML The majority of the muzzleloaders out there today will work just fine for most hunting situations. The cheaper ones sometimes take a little more care to keep up.Id agree with Too, pick a price range, decide what your looking for in a gun and then go check em out in person.Narrow the field down to a few and if your still undecided let us know which ones your picking from. superguide
Re: NEED HELP WITH PICKING A ML For something that is a long term investment it sometimes doesn't hurt to spend the extra money to go from adequate in most situations to superb at all times. Hoyt03
Re: NEED HELP WITH PICKING A ML I would hands down go with the Omega. No need to buy the Encore or pro hunter if your only going to be muzzelloading. I know you stated above not liking something about the Omega, but in my opinion its one of the better ml's around for that price. You can get the camo stock(th or reg) with the stainless steel barrel for like 399.99 at places like Dick's Sporting goods. They shoot awesome and are easy to clean and up keep, plus TC gives great customer service for any of your needs.
PA_RIDGE_RUNNER
Re: NEED HELP WITH PICKING A ML I personally would not let price be the only driving factor when I purchase a ML. I am sure that you would not let price be the only factor if you were looking for a modern rifle or shotgun. Besides I can tell you right now this ML thing is very addictive and if you get a cheapo first then decide to trade it on a better ML you will get practically nothing on a trade in. I tried to trade a Traditions on a Knight and they would not even take it in trade.

robk
Re: NEED HELP WITH PICKING A ML check them all out as they all have their qualities and their short comings. read and go and physically hold them and see how they feel in your hands. and how well they sit in your shoulder. when someone says this is only one they are mainly speaking for themselves. your feelings and your physical holding and shouldering your muzzleloader has be natural to you and not every gun is going to work for you. just take your time and go check them all out. i believe once you have done this and then tested the weight and feel find people you know and see what they shoot and go try them out. that too will make your decision for you as well good luck rob k

jdickey
Re: NEED HELP WITH PICKING A ML Its sorta like FORD, CHEVROLET, and DODGE! You need to physically handle the gun to see which one will fit YOU! There are some new and better innovations for nearly all of the ML on the immediate horizon! Hold off till after the Shot Show.. and you'll see some great stuff coming to the ML industry!

LETMGROW
Re: NEED HELP WITH PICKING A ML So many choices! I took into consideration, I hunt the first weekend of early muzzleloading season [ season is 1 week in NY ] and the last weekend of the late season [ also one week ] This gives me a 4 day window to use a muzzleloader. In between is the regular rifle season, in which I use a rifle. Therefore I can't justify spending big bucks on a muzzleloader. However, I own a Traditions Pro, which I have found to be on par with many more expensive front stuffers. I really like it and have good success with it. You might take into account how much you are really going to use your muzzleloader before you buy one.
tped
Re: NEED HELP WITH PICKING A ML I have an Encore and Omega and am now using my Encore for rifle barrels and using the Omega as my muzzle gun. I love them both but I suggest buying the Omega - Easy to load - clean and shoots like a dream. T/C is the only way to go. The Knight bolts are nice but all bolt guns are a hassle to clean. Now after having my first season using it...I still cant complain about the cost or the functionality of the rifle! Super Easy to Clean. break action style, rifle thats very accurate with the right load. I cant justify spending 3 times or more for some other rifles, when this one does what I ask of it perfectly, just to keep up with the Jone's

johnf
Re: NEED HELP WITH PICKING A ML The NEF guns are very reliable, very accurate, easy to clean, and very inexpensive. bowana
Re: NEED HELP WITH PICKING A ML I own both the Encore and Knight Long Range Hunter. These are two awsome smoke poles!!. If you will be doing more spot and stalk, Id go with the Knight Extreme. If your stand hunting then the Knight long range hunter. If you are going to exchange barrels; the Encore. The knight .52 Cal is a pretty awsome weapon.
Outdoor_Guy
Re: NEED HELP WITH PICKING A ML I did quite a bit of research last year when making my purchase. It came dowm to TC or Knight. The final factor was the excellent values for a Knight Disc Elite. Check them out.
