shockwave
I was browsing at wal-mart while my girlfriend was x-mas shopping, and came across what i think is a deal. Remington 710 in .300 win mag, for $300. Is the 710 a lower grade rifle, thus you get what you pay for, or is a heck of a deal ????
OJR
Re: Opinions wanted I would stay away from the 710! There have been some recalls and problems with them!
Canadian_Goose
Re: Opinions wanted The 710 i a lower grade rifle than the 700 if that's what your asking. If I were you I would wait and save the extra 150 because your going to want to replace that scope anyways so you mght as well have a great gun too. I have the 710 in .300 win mag and killed 2 deer with it this year. It shoots good but I would save up for the 700 or a Savage. Ps You wont get too many opinions around here
ksbowhntr77
Re: Opinions wanted I just bought the Mossberg ATR 100 in a .243. I got the wood stock on mine. Put a 3x9x40 Bushnell Sportsman on it and to be honest I think I spent $350-$370 on everything. I was rather impressed with the rifle, it's put together very well. Night and Days difference from the Rem. 710. It's all about you and your preferences, Savage makes a good rifle and they sell a rifle/scope combo in the $350 range. Do what feels right. johnf
Re: Opinions wanted I agree with ksbowhntr77 if you want a low price bolt gun, go with the mossberg. I have heard more bad from 710 owners than good. I have never heard a bad thing about the ATR from an ATR owner.
Canadian_Goose
Re: Opinions wanted ps. those pa deer may not need a .300 win mag (actually no deer needs a .300). I would look at a 30-06 for deer and bear, cuz I know you guys hvae some big bears out there.
AJ
Re: Opinions wanted Since it sounds like you are trying to get off of the porch with Strut, I would lean towards a Savage in one of the magnums over the 710. The 710 is a decent gun but it has a plastic magazine retaing system that is prone to breaking. It's a beater gun that has to be babied a little, so it kind of defeats the purpose. Other than the clip retension, the gun actually, is not too bad. They ahve had problems and recalls, but so has the Rem 700.
shockwave
Re: Opinions wanted I already have a Savage in .30-06 . The reason i asked was to avoid a $300 mistake. I got burned on a Mossburg semi-auto shottie, i thought i was getting a great deal, but all i bought was a headache, the gun jammed every other shot, i`m trying to avoid another by asking... Guest ronin
Re: Opinions wanted I agree with AJ. I prefer the Savage when cost is an issue. Heck, I prefer them most of the time anyway. I bought the Weather Warrior in 300 RUM and it is one of the best shooting rifles in my safe...even with the recoil.
JimT
Re: Opinions wanted If I were to get a cheaply priced combo I would get a Savage. A few of my buddies bought them and they shoot very well.
