i used to be able to hunt every were around where i live but for some reason they all started saying no becasue of only one hunter who i guess supposdaly shot a buck with his bow and it ran to these peoples front door and died and he never did get it on i dont see why they should say no to everyone just because of one person do you all think that this is right to not let any hunters hunt because of one?

Re: why why why

Right or wrong in your, mine or others eyes isn't important - it's the landowners right to decide.

I have a friend that had hunted a property for a long time, always stopped each year to talk and make sure he had permission. One year the farmer said no. He asked if he did anything wrong and the farmer said I don't know but someone shot one of my cows last year and so I'm not letting anyone on. My friend told him that he was sorry that had happened but that he hadn't done it. Farmer said it didn't matter if he shot it or not, that cow was worth X amount of dollars to him and someone just shot it and left it. My friend once again said he was sorry that someone had done that and asked the farmer to wait a second because there was something he had in his car for him. My friend went to his car and then came back and handed the farmer a piece of paper and told him that he appreciated the years he let him hunt out there and said goodbye.

As my friend was pulling out of the driveway the farmer waived him down. The farmer said that he knew that my friend didn't shoot his cow and that he could come out and hunt whenever he wanted. Then he handed back the piece of paper and said Here I don't need this either.

THe piece of paper was a check for the amount that the farmer had mentioned the cow was worth. Even though my friend hadn't shot it he was willing to pay for someone elses mistakes as he thought that the priviledge of hunting all those years was more than a priviledge, it was a gift.

Now this story doesn't help you out at all I know, but I guess what I'm trying to say is don't take the wrong attitude about it, work on it and over time you might be back on.

yep--that's all it takes.I lost a great farm that had the best goose hunting I'd ever had because some knucklehead kept shooting towards his barn and livestock, didn't pick up the hulls and left access gate open. And I even know the farmer. He said "I know it wasn't you Jim, but no more hunting for anybody".So yep--just one bad apple will do it

Re: why why why

A recent court ruling here in PA could make it even tougher to get on private land.

Long and short of it...a "hunter" accidently shot a woman (neighbor) while in her car backing out of her drive (something along those lines). Anyways, the court found the landowner (who gave the hunter permission) 10% responsible for the shooting!
