Swamphunter
Well, after years of knocking them down...year after year, this is the first year my old Rem 700 30-06, didn't put the smackdown on a whitetail. I did however fill my archery tag, but just did not get it done with the rifle this year. Due to the lack of time in the woods this year with a 4 year old at home, it hurt me for taking a buck with my rifle. My baby girl starts full days of school next year and although I'll have a tough time with her not being with me anymore, I can take that time and spend it in the woods. There won't be ANY unfilled tags next year. So anyway...my rifle got a nice thorough cleaning, a nice light coat of oil, and tucked gently into the gun cabinet for a long winters rest. AJ
Re: Put it to rest for the winter Sorry to hear that. But at least you got to go out some and like you said, you filled your bow tag. Just one of those years where priorities move around.

RangerClay
Re: Put it to rest for the winter Thanks for the good idea Swampy! We had a snow day today and I think will give the 30-30 a good rub down.
Jeramie
Re: Put it to rest for the winter Me either. I wanted to punch a hole in something with my new .243 but didnt get the chance. I passed a 282yd shot on a doe and now wish I would have taken it. It was opening day so I passed it up. The only good news is we have a designated doe season for Rifle that starts the 22nd. Ill be out there to see what the .243 can do.
Shaun_300
Re: Put it to rest for the winter I didn't get anything either with the rifle. I only got to hunt for about 4 days due to my training this year. Saw one buck but didn't have a clear shot on it, so I passed. So the ole .300 WSM is oiled up and put away until it's time to bust some timberwolves in February.

Swamphunter
Re: Put it to rest for the winter Tomorrow I break out the old smokepole for 3 days of hunting. Hopefully I can fill my tag tomorrow so I can pull stands on Thursday or Friday.
