Guest Andrea
Yesterday I noticed that the deep freeze on our back porch was UNPLUGGED. When I lifted the lid I almost puked. I don't care at all about the lost peas and fish and other stuff, but I had 2 deer heads in there that I was planning on getting mounted very soon. My 9 point and my 8 point. They are ruined........ Very sad about it. Wonder if I can still make a Eurpoean mount with them.

Gator
Re: Freezer unplugged You should be able to do a euro with them...... what kinda peas were they, and don't tell me conch!!!
MCH
Re: Freezer unplugged You can still make a European mount out of them Andrea. I wouldn't want to be the person that capes them.
RangerClay
Re: Freezer unplugged Sorry to hear about your loss Andrea. Talk to your taxidermist he may have a couple extra capes or he can get one for you. My cousins wall mount is not the original cape and it looks great. Guest Andrea
Re: Freezer unplugged [ QUOTE ] You should be able to do a euro with them...... what kinda peas were they, and don't tell me conch!!! [/ QUOTE ] Zipper peas, black eye peas. My son's shellcracker was ruined too that we planned on gertting mounted. HUGE fish. Almost 3 pounds. From now on, all potential mounts are going DIRECTLY to a taxidermist!!!!!!!!!!!
Newarcher
Re: Freezer unplugged Sad to say it but you probably will have to replace the freezer. I dunno that anything you put in it going forward won't smell like death. The plus side is that you get a new freezer and a cheap coffin for whoever unplugged it! Sorry to hear about the bad news. Leo
Re: Freezer unplugged All hope is not lost on your trophies. The horns will be salvageable. A taxidermist may be able to get another cape to use with them. If you have good pictures of the fish and even better some measurements a fiberglass repro can be may that will look darn good. Tominator
Re: Freezer unplugged European mount will still work. Sorry to hear that. One day I gave my son a bag of freezer items and told him to stash away. about 5 hours later I went down stairs and noticed he forgot to shut the lid. Nothing got ruined, but I'm betting he stressed the compressor for that time.
OJR
Re: Freezer unplugged Sorry to hear this. You should be able to salvage your deer heads to have them mounted or make a euro mount out of them! It will be a bit smelly though!

wtnhunt
Re: Freezer unplugged That is a shame Andrea. I check our freezer frequently for fears of the same thing happening. The heads may be ruined as far as the capes, but you could get different capes and still get the deer mounted.
Guest Andrea
Re: Freezer unplugged I am DEFINITELY going to get new capes!!!! As soon as I do, they are off to the taxidermy man!!!

That has to be nasty smell. Are you junking it? Not sure if you can get that smell out.

Problem with the others is stuff gets buried and usually goes bad before you even know its there.

Leo
Re: Freezer unplugged If the freezer still works, don't throw it away. Donate it to Goodwill. There are folks who just needs freezers that work and don't care if they stink (IE. Bait shops, taxidermists...) Then you can at least write off the donation value on your taxes at the end of the year
