fisherguy
Re: ice fishing huts?? huts are for wimps lol. Most of the places we fish are far too remote for a hut, and those portable ones just don't seem to cut it when its -40 and windy. A buddy had one that had clear plastic windows and with teh cold and wind they shattered! We just sit by our holes, but if it is really cold we will light a fire on shore where we can eat and warm up for a minute.
birddog
Re: ice fishing huts?? portable ice shelters are the key....I use a "quick flip type" otter lodge, that I attach to the wheeler or snowcat and can be very mobile. I enjoy, starting the heater and getting it nice and warm in there...add a latern, and some beverages and heck, I could spend the night! (and have)
billkay
Re: ice fishing huts?? [ QUOTE ] just don't seem to cut it when its -40 and windy. [/ QUOTE ] I'll keep my hut. If it's -40 and windy, Ill be at home watching football. -40 is too cold to do anything outdoors let alone fish! LOL

Shaun_300
Re: ice fishing huts?? hey, ya i got one, we made it, i think its 7x7 but not positive. i have a wood stove in it so it gets about 90 degrees in there lol. i have 2 holes in the shack, one 3'x1.5' and one 12"x12" its cool cuz the lake is really clear and we put it in about 9 feet of water so you can see the fish as clear as a bell... it is REALLY neat. HuntingInMaine
Re: ice fishing huts?? [ QUOTE ] huts are for wimps lol. [/ QUOTE ] LOL Then I am a big wimp!!! I don't think it would be fun if I didn't have some place to warm up. We have two ice shacks we put out on different lakes and also have friends with their own shacks. Everyone puts their's on different lakes or ponds and we all share. It's a lot of fun and keeps me from going crazy in the winter time! VTbowman
Re: ice fishing huts?? My co-wroker BobD has a nice 5x8 that we use. It seats 4 and we run a propane heater in it. He also has a small portable pop-up style that seats 2 if we are mobile. Although I normally do not ice fish unless I can drive out so I suppose my trucks counts as a third "shack". LOL As you can see I do not own any. Why should it if my buddy has them..?? LOL He supplies the ice fishing spots, shanty, tip-ups, etc. and I supply the hunting spots, stands, etc.... Works out well...
VTbowman
Re: ice fishing huts?? Thats funny you say that because I have a plan to try out my pop-up hunting blind in the same way. I just need to bring some spike nails for anchors and it should work fine. Well it will keep the wind off the back of my neck anyways... bulldawg
Re: ice fishing huts?? I've got a big flip over Frabil Ranger, or something like that. When it gets real windy, I just spike it down with some screw spikes. I'm getting too old for sitting out in -10 or lower temps. If I'm not enjoying myself, then it gets old fast. Last year I about froze my fingers pulling in a cigar sized walleye that ran out alot of line(unusual, but only because it was colder than heck). By the time I got the line back on the spool, I almost frost bit my fingers taking out the hook. After that, I swore I won't bother going out when it's that cold!
