Re: i am speechless!

Im from minnesota where party huntin is legal. My group sets rules. Your first buck goes on your own tag unless otherwised talked about. Second buck must be bigger (atleast 4yr old or 130class). we fill doe tags on drives and on the last days of the hunt. Any body can shoot another person's doe tag.

Re: i am speechless!

I am sure tag sharing here is illegal, but I am sure I know of some people who do it. If I could ever prove it, I would report them, but the twra has their hands so full, I kind of doubt unless there was some sort of evidence to support it, they would not likely pursue investigating.

Re: i am speechless!

As stated by Randy WI law states you have to be in yelling distance of the other party. It has been this way for many years. In the particular unit I hunt in we are Earn a Buck and the DNR wants the antlerless deer numbers down. Without this ability we wouldn't be able to get the numbers down. I think it is a good thing.

Re: i am speechless!

In ontario the law states some mumbo jumbo about being in constant communication with the other members in your party in order to party hunt, if you hear a gun shot then you must ensure there is still a tag to hunt with before you can fire!. We use walkie talkies and have for years. The problem arises with cellphones. Peiople try to cheat and hunt longer distances apart and call it party hunting. It is not. You also must be out there hunting at the time with them. Sitting at home on the couch and listening to the walkie talkie doesn't count. In some years our group has had as little as one doe tag for a group of five or six hunters. And it is generally this tag that hunters"party hunt with". Our general rule is that if you use somebodies doe tag you hold off using your buck tag so the guys tag you used can use yours. In the end we worry more about the comraderie and the sharing of the meat, than a personal competion as to who shoots the deer. We help each other be succesful!

Lets say there is two people in the group. They are hunting on same track of land but different Stands. One guy shoots two bucks one for him and his partner .Just minutes later the other guy kills a buck not Knowing his partner all ready killed one. What do you do in this situation. Here in Ky you cant tag someone else deer.Just Wonderning I had never heard of this till now.

[/ QUOTE ]

Thats why you set ruels between your party so something like that does not happen. What Hunter 36 said is a perfect example of it. Plus you shouldn't be shooting 2 bucks in the first place because in a lot of places where they have party hunting legal you can only shoot one. The reason why it is safe with does is because well atleast here in Minnesota you can get up to 4 extra doe tags.

[/ QUOTE ] Forgot to say that this only applies to the gun season. For archery, you cannot shoot a deer for someone else. You must shoot your own.

Re: i am speechless!

In Minnesota archery hunters can also shoot eachothers deer. But a party is defined as a group afield together either all hunting with guns or all with archery equipment. a gun hunter can not shoot an archery tag and an archery hunter can not shoot a gun tag.

Re: i am speechless!

Party permits like these are for killing deer not to teach ethics on sharing tags. In some states it is may be the only way to keep the deer herd in check. as long as everyone plays by the rules, it sounds like a great way to get the family out hunting!

Re: i am speechless!

Coles, I think you misunderstood the law. I'm reading all the post to see if it has been straightened out - Well, I don't think it was. You do understand that it is more about being able to use all the tags that were purchased more than anything else, right?

If I bought 4 tags and only got one deer. On the last day of the season do you really think that I'm going to waste 3 tags. No, if my buddy takes a deer, I'll just put my tag on it.

All states should allow party hunting, because people do it anyway. I have done it and will do it again. It is more about keeping honest people honest instead of making criminals out of good people and using common sense.

There is nothing wrong with doing a drive and using all the tags that people have purchased. The state doesn't like party hunting because they want people to get scammed out of their money. if 400,000 deer are killed in Minnesota, but they sell 750,000 tags, $$$ is made.

Have party hunted and will again.

being from iowa i hunted this way most of my life. the only problem i have is it is about 15 guys pushing a timber and posters on the outside and ends shooting the ones that run out. very dangerous way to hunt in my opinion, lots of possibilities for cross fire! i have been zinged several times by slugs and it makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck!! it just seemed less ethical to me so a few others that felt the same way got muzzleloaders and we hunt pretty much the way we bowhunt. i geuss a just appreciate that style of hunting alot more. the driving the deer to a slaughter is just not my cup of tea. alot of my friends hunt this way and they do have a great time, alot of comrodery(spelling)! to each their own i geuss. its not up to me to say whats right or not i just don't prefer to do it anymore. JMHO

Re: i am speechless!

I dont know how other people set up hunts but when i am in a group i make sure we plan it out very well. when we are making a deer drive we make sure everyone understands where the posters are at, what direction we are walking. And we are always communicating with eachother. and signaling. I've never been shot towards on a drive and hopefully never will. And as far as a slaughter hahaha. If you are afraid of deer being slaughtered on a deer drive find another hobbie. its not like we are running them over cliffs or into pens these deer i believe alot of times have a better chance than when they walk infront of a hunter in a tree 100yrds away.

The only times I've been shot at was 4yrs ago sitting on a rock pile by a guy shooting a fawn out of his truck. and this year after dragging my and my girlfriends deer to a fieald edge the idiot across the field started shooting at a deer directly in between us, And we were in the wide open in a field wearing BLAZE ORANGE (we both had a solid orange hat and solid orange vest on. I think that the ignorant and unethical hunters are more dangerious than anything.
