I finally got to fill a couple of tags. I killed two does after finally changing broadheads the 75 and 85 grains just wasnt working. SO i went with a 100 grain hammerhead with a two inch cut and look at what it did to this doe on a straight on shot. I havent got a buck yet i just cant find them there coming of a night on me or at 1 or 2 in the morning. Maybe luck will change in muzzle-loading this weekend. Good luck guys!!!!!!!!! Nice looking Doe! I do have a question or two. She has been shot staight on, but you said the head hit her spinal cord. Was you on the ground or in a treestand? I can see tht on a ground level shot, but from a treestand, that is a wicked turn up and just confirm's for me that mech-heads don't keep there path going through a deer like a fixed head. I'm not trying to start an arguement here, just trying to reaffirm what is being said about mech. vs. fixed. Also, switching from a 75 - 85 grain head because you weren't killing deer, is a little far fetched to me. If you hit'em through the boiler room with a 1/2 inch ut. It'll kill them, shot placement is everything. JMO congrats again on a nice Doe.

Congrats, but I agree with the above. An arrow tipped with a field point through the boiler room will put the deer down. 25 grains is not going to make a difference on killing or not. I'd say shot placement and angle probaly played a bigger role in killing over the head. Now leaving blood trails that's a diff story. Again congrats on getting the doe

Everybody asking questions about him saying 75 to 85 grain broadheads werent killing deer It could be that his arrows werent flying strait with a light broadhead, and that little bit of difference in buying a heavier broadhead improved his accuracy...Just a thought..I realize its not that big of a difference. But it makes a difference in your confidence. But congrats on the doe!

Im didn't think of that being an issue. I woud have assumed he had his equipment in tune before entering the woods. But hey, I've seen guys pull fieldtips off and screw fixed heads on and go hunting. This could be a totally different issue of the hunters responsiblity. Bowhunting is a finally tuned sport. wink.gif

Re: Finally got a couple of does with my bow

All the shots with the 75 grains was in the boiler room and yeah im sure it killed them but when theres no blood at all its kinda really hard to find them. And i was in a tree-stand but i was only about 8 feet off the ground because any higher i wouldnt be able to see and get a good shot. Yes, it also surprised me that the mech broadhead went int the spinal chord between the shoulders. I guess when it smacked her it made her rare up and then her legs wilted when they touched the ground. Just to clean up any concerns.
