dartonman
I can pretty much get along with anyone...here is how the morning went...a neigbor at his work called me and told me of an injured doe in a field, that has no use of her back legs, and needs to be put down....first hand information came from another gentleman he worked with...so, they drew me a map, 30 miles from my house is where the deer is located. I grab my 20 month old boy, knife, and buddy Terry, who carried a cased .22 pistol to dispatch the deer that was told to be struck by a car. I locate the deer, and notice a farm truck parked and running across the road from the deer...this is where it gets ugly....I go to the farmer in the truck, and he starts ranting "You must be another worthless f'n hunter, stupid f'n hunters make me angry, you cut my fence, tear up my fields and shoot everything in sight.....I asked him to calm down, I just wanted to know the status of the deer...(at this time, the deer raises its head and starts bawling really loud, and continues to bawl) The farmer tells me, you cant have that deer, you f'n hunter, you let NATURE TAKE ITS COURSE.....so after he yelled swear words at me for 5 minutes, I asked him, cause it was evident he had been "guarding" this poor wounded deer, his truck exaust and burned the ground, so I knew he had been there all morning..if he owned the land the deer was on....Farmer replied "NO"....at this time, he see's Im not alone, and he gives up his quest of being a mean SOB, and rants on I need to leave the deer alone......I went to a great looking farm just down the road, spoke to an older woman who said she owned the land, and was sick of hearing the poor deer crying, and if I could please take it away.....so, I shot the deer, took it home, it had a small bone on its spine broke, no meat damage whatsoever, and I plan on donating all the meat to a local food pantry for the homeless close to the holiday.....and before me and the farmer was done with each other, I let my mean side come out, and told him my wife was a nurse, but if his fat butt had a heart attack, just stay in the truck, or field, dont call 911, I want Nature to just take its course......the saddest part of this was if I was alone, he may of ran me off, like so many other hunters this morning, and the poor button buck it turned out to be, had tears all over its face where it had cried all morning........some people are just downright mean as heck...........al
billygoat
Re: **Met a really hateful man today/anti-everything.. Once again, some people just don't get it... Sounds like you did a good thing... Way to stand your ground. I am a nurse also and unfortunately I have the "priveledge" of taking care of "those" individuals, drives you absolutely freakin' nuts. Best of luck to your wife when his "fat butt" shows up at the hospital.... maybe she can help his up tight as*$#% with an enema or some other laxative. You did a good thing and should feel good about that. There are people like that everywhere and that is not to change. We need to be thankful for the people like yourself who care and make a difference. Thanks for doing the right thing and not turning away! texastrophies
Re: **Met a really hateful man today/anti-everything.. Just a thought Al, maybe you should give a ham to the man just to show him that all hunters are not the same way as the ones he has obviously ran into in the past. Or not. He's a complete idiot trying to intimidate you. Way to go on dispatching the wounded deer and taking the ham to the lady. Send scrooge a Xmas card and sign it whatever way you please but leave your return address off of it.

Tominator
Re: **Met a really hateful man today/anti-everything.. let nature take it's course unbelievable i'm not a huge proponent of "putting animals out of their misery" this dude seems pretty heartless. we're part of nature, and it would appear that "nature" in this case was an automobile. you did the right thing Al--good job. and BTW--while i've never met you, i've heard stories and have seen pictures, and while i didn't see pictures of the a@#%^$# farmer in the truck, he better have been a big boy. my money would have been on you in a mano y mano-Illinois-farm-field-smackdown-noholdsbarred-death-match. [/ QUOTE ] Very good idea! None of us knows what happened to this man to make him this way, maybe he is just lonely and protects himself by being cranky (to put it nicely!). Or maybe it had been a really bad week and you were the unlucky person to get his wrath. Either way it is great that you were able to put the deer out of his misery.
