Bownarow
When does the shed hunting contest usually start. I found three already this year while tracking deer that people have shot. Would I even be able to count these sheds?
Turkeygirl
Re: Shed Contest Sure, you'd be able to count those as sheds for this year's contest I believe....I could be wrong but I think you could. I think it usually starts up in January? Maybe February/March?
Tom2008
Re: Shed Contest It usually doesn't start till the deer start dropping their antlers. We still have a couple of months to go.
whitetailtrax
Re: Shed Contest I'd say go ahead and keep track of what you've found in the last few weeks and count them when the contest begins. Antler shedding is on a bell curve, with a very few shedding in December, a few more in January, the majority in February/March and the last few in April (here in Montana anyway). I'd say we should get the signup going now and then pair folks up after the start of the new year.

I'm gonna have to go out this week since it's supposed to be nice out, just to check it out..... I still don't find the majority of mine till February and March, but it would be nice to find some early ones....

[/ QUOTE ] I photographed a one antler buck yesterday (Dec. 11) but that doesn't necessarily mean he shed already.....could be that he never grew it or it broke off right at the pedicle in a fight or something. He was just a youngster, but the pictures should turn out nice.

KANSAN
Re: Shed Contest The contest usually starts after the first of the year, and then has a cut-off date for entries. More info will be posted as the contest draws near. Check back for updates after 1/1/2007. 2007 should be a good year for sheds and a contest! Canuck2
Re: Shed Contest My first one of the new crop, found on the 18th about half an hour after it was dropped. The buck lost his other one a day or two earlier, but I haven't found that one. I have a picture of him wearing just this one.
