Strut10
Re: .308 marlin lever action Looks like the .307 Winchester all over again. Can't see it lasting any longer than the .307 did.
bearcat
Re: .308 marlin lever action The new Hornady .308 is a .307 with a slightly shorter case. It is loaded with the Light Magnum ball powder. It shoots a 160 grain leverevolution slug(same as the one in the 30-30 but beefed up a bit). The Ballistics are basically identical to a .308 Winchester with 165 grain ballistic tip bullets. As of now Marlin is chambering the new Hornady .308 Express in their new 336 XLR rifle. Imagine a Marlin 336 with .308 Winchester ballistics. This ought to be a great seller.
gitcha_some
Re: .308 marlin lever action omg this is perfect i love lever guns and my next first rifle im gunna buy is gunna be a .308 i cant wait to buy it -6 inches at 300 yards with a lever gun
AJ
Re: .308 marlin lever action Like Strut said though, its nothing new. The 307 Winchester was a flop and it was basically a rimmed 308 Winchester. This is hardly something new. Since they now have a high(er) BC bullet for lever guns, they had to release a new cartridge because the 307 is dead. But it will help sell more guns, bullets, and ammo, so hopefully they will out over their tooling costs.

Canadian_Goose
Re: .308 marlin lever action I was looking at Marlins 444 and the 45-70 gov in lever action. How are these guns. Used on deer and black bear.
ousoonerfan22
Re: .308 marlin lever action Do you know if the new Marlin in .308 will be offered with a straight grip or just the pistol grip?
Guest Colorado Bob
Re: .308 marlin lever action Goose---both are super on black bear & deer-----your range will have to be limited less than 200 yards IMO. They both shot a big hulk of lead. I've got a 444----plan on taking it elk hbunting this year. CB
superguide
Re: .308 marlin lever action Well I think BLR's look really sweet myself-that's a pretty common rifle combo up here in .308. Ty has one in .243 is a pretty accurate little lever gun-good medicine for mulies and coyotes.
