Re: mosse hunting

ive moose hunted for years, and around here te best places we found for them are places with lots of willows, alders and stuff...they really like the new growth of logging cutblocks, and any cutlines are good to find moose hanging around....as for caliber we use 7mm rem mag, and .30-06 sprg.

brudaman---where are you from? The reason I ask is if you are from say PA----then you have to do alot of work & money to get a tag. If you are from Ontario-----that's another story. CB

Re: mosse hunting

brudaman------Moose hunting either takes time or money. In the lower 48---you'll have to apply for tags. East of the Mississippi----the 2 states that come to mind are NH & Maine. I think both have lottery type drawings for the tags. Both a long long odds.----Best to check out the web pages of the Dept of Game for info.

Western US. Again really long odds. Colorado has a drawing for the tags with preference point system. It takes 3 years before you get enough points to get into the drawing. I've been applying for 15 years & have not drawn a tag. WY has a similar setup, I've been applying there for 8 years now & I now have enough points---I've got a 20% chance of drawing this year-----next it will be for sure. So, 10 years to tag a tag there. Plus with the way the wolves are hurting the game---who knows what the future has.

Utah has a lottery drawing. I read somewhere where you had a 1 in 900 chance. I'm not sure on ID.

That leaves Canada. Best bet there for a moose is Newfoundland. Problem there is most of the bulls are pretty small in the antler department. You can find bigger bulls but you'll have to really pick your outfitter. Cost last time I checked $3500-$4500.

I'm noit sure on Ontarto or Quebec.

Sask & Alberta. I don't really know-----but you'll have to use an outfitter----cost I bet are $4500-$5500.

Best areas in Canada are BC, Yukon--NWT. Really good moose there but it's also top dollar. $8000-$10000.

There further west you go the better the moose & more money you pay.

Alaska------same price as BC. $8000-$10000. I would stear clear of AK. I heard mostly bad things about the outfiiters, weather, lack of game. If I were paying that kind of money BC would be my pick.

Hope this helps. The dollar figures are ball park numbers---I'm sure some are higher & some are lower----you'll have to do your own homework there.

Re: mosse hunting

Forgot to add you can buy a landowners tag in Utah. They go for @ $5000/$6000----for the tag. No drawing there---but if the landowner may have a waiting list

Yeah, for alberta you'll be payin around $5000....the outfitters where i live charge $5250.00 for moose & elk... and like $3750.00 for deer...but there are alot of big bulls around here, so if you did pick alberta and spent the money, its awsome scenery and big bulls...

We've got tons of moose here in Ontario, big ones too. When I go I use my .300 WSM or .300 Win Mag. I just googled it and the here's the first place I came up with.
