LifeNRA
Re: reloading.. Cant not tell you how many handgun rounds I pumped out over the years. Its a shame too its all still packed away!
RangerClay
Re: reloading.. I do a very low volume of shotgun shell reloading so I am very happy with my Lee Load All.

AJ
Re: reloading.. I load rifle, handgun, and shotgun ammo. The shotgun ammo is probably the least cost beneficial these days unless you shoot a .410 bore or 28 ga. You do however get better quality ammo if you select the right components. I have put more than a ton of shot (80 + bags) through my Grabber. I was buying primers by the sleave (5000), wads by the case (5000) and powder by the 25# keg. This is a pretty cool reloading calculator for shotshells.
Strut10
Re: reloading.. [ QUOTE ] The shotgun ammo is probably the least cost beneficial ........... [/ QUOTE ] Yep. Got that right!! One of the guys I shoot trap beside claims he's loading 1 1/8 oz. 12 gauges for $2.65/box. Not sure just how he's doing it that cheaply. I can buy them brand new for $3.49/box. Right now, I'm contemplating a reloading outfit. I shoot enough shells each year to benefit if I can really save 75 cents or $1.00/box. Just not sure how realistic the $2.65 number is. AJ
Re: reloading.. I was able to reload for ~$2.25 per box including the hulls. But to do this I bought in bulk and it requires a fairly substantial outlay of cash up front. It was like $120.00 for 10 bags of shot, $180 for 10K primers, $60 for 5K wads, and $220 for 25# of powder. When you add in $350-$750 for a good progressive reloader and your time to reload all of the ammo, the price goes up significantly. The other option is to buy good quality target ammo like Remington STS. You can get these for ~$5/box and some stores have discounts for buying an entire flat of 10 boxes. This can drop the price to $45. You can then sell the empty hulls for about 3 cents each which drops the price another $7.50. So you get to shoot high quallity factory ammo for $3.75 per box. It takes me about 5 minutes to load a box of 25 shells. This includes setup, refilling hoppes, etc. Granted it takes me 7 minutes to load 2 boxes of shells, but add in trips to the supplier and the time for reloading, it adds up quickly. Strut10
Re: reloading.. Yeah. It's a finely weighed decision. For me to buy in bulk.........well............you know how far CAC is from here and what gas costs. I've been shooting a lot of Rio shells. They've gained a big following around here for trapshooting. I can get the Rios for $3.49/box. I actually picked up some AA Sportings for $2.75/box on sale this fall at Dick's!! Unfortunately they limited you in how many boxes you can tote away for that money.

It was a coupon deal.............. 50% off any box of ammo (up to 3 boxes) in stock. So I bought 3 and got 3 free. Had I not been caught with my drawers down, I'd have had every member of my family buying AA's. Live & learn, I guess.

Guest Colorado Bob
Re: reloading.. Looks like AJ & Strut got it covered. I think it's just as cheap to shoot new as it is to shoot reloads. Besure to add your time in also. Now, if you do it as a hobby---that's a different story. For rifle----I shoot an 06---IMO it's also just about a brake even deal. Same for the 270, 308 etc. Now with Strut & all those big bore----then the savings start to mount up.
