Oh yeah, when I was flying satellites we worked shifts that covered 24x7. Space craft does not take a day off, and has no concept of a holiday, so the work still goes on. Just think of the support people making your satellite television feeds are working, the phone company that makes sure your phone call to distant family that can not be there with you, goes through, th enetworking person that is monitoring the internet so your yuletide and good wishes post gets on the internet, and many other positions that are taken for granted by everyday users.

I sure feel sorry for all you people who have to work on Christmas Day! That's a bummer.

So what exactly is boxing day? It sounds like a weird holiday. Are you celebrating the coolness of cardboard boxes or do you just get to go around punching everyone all day?

LOL... Here's the definition of Boxing Day from answers.com... it's pretty much a holiday to go shopping. grin.gif

In Canada, Boxing Day is observed as a holiday. Boxing Day and the days immediately following are when many retail stores sell their Christmas and retired model products by holding clearance sales. Some shoppers will line up for hours at night (sometimes before midnight and after midnight on December 26th) for retailers to open their doors. Retailers often open their stores earlier than usual, such as 6 or 7 am. Some retail companies internally refer to the sales week after Christmas as the "thirteenth month."

Re: working Christmas

I work for the federal government so what do you all think? smirk.gif Actually though what we do is down right important and effects the nuclear powered ships and subs. Because of that I am on call 24x7. The fleet is operating somewhere every day of the year so I can be called in at any time.
