FCO (An Outdoor Ministry)

First let me explain this a little more. Back in July of this year I felt God's hands upon me. I answered His calling into the Ministry on a Thursday night at Fort Creek Baptist Church here in Dearing Ga. The Ministry I have been called into is an Outdoor Ministry and I felt compelled to call it Fort Creek Outfitters: "Outfitting Folks For God's Greatest Adventure!"

So...now you know what FCO stands for...let me also tell yall what I do...I minister and witness to men, women and youth about God's great outdoors. I share the gospel with them on the deer stand, in the turkey woods, in the dove fields and on the waters. I am taking this Ministry out West in Feb. to Long Creek, Oregon and then to Crossville, Tenn. in June. At these places along with local chruches in my area I do a turkey hunting seminar that explains how God calls to us just as we call to the Wild Turkey....I also try to help others as often as I can even if they are not hunters or fishers.

Which brings me to this...

I was directed to a young man (20 years old) from Indiana. He is in the 5th year of ALS. He only needs to take an Osceola turkey to complete his Grand Slam. I spoke with his mother Thursday night on the phone....I was leary about even calling them...I did not want to say anything to her about trying to get a hunt lined up for her son and then me not being able to come throught for them. I did tell her that I would like to make a custom turkey call for him for Christmas and she told me I was about to make her cry. After listening to her tell his story...I was about to cry.

I would like to know from some of you what you think I could do to try to help in funding or patital-funding of this hunt for him. I have looked and found that most of the guides or outfitters are charging upwards of $1500 per 3 day hunt with most of them being $1800 per 3 day hunt....and that does not include the cost of a Non Resident license and then you still have to purchase a Turkey Permit.

Any ideas you have are greatly appreciated

Hey Alex was wondering if you have sent some emails as a custom call maker to some of these outfitters ... asking them if maybe they could work with you ... if its meant to be it would be out of our hands at that point ... worste they can say is no ... I think that you would be surprised with the response you get ...

I have a few contacts that hunt Fla every year...and I am going to check with them and see how they do it...I am also going to start contacting a few folks I know at the NWTF and see what we can make happen.

Faith is how we become Christians, Faith is what is going to make this work.

Ya know...I posted this on the NWTF forum and thought they would be receptive to the idea of helping a fellow Christian and Turkey hunter....but the first reply and second were not ever needed...if they had to comment that way...why comment at all???.... Why is it that some one has to be that way?I am so glad to be a part of Real Tree...where when someone is in need...ALL come to thier aid.

O.K. My dumb. Original post sez he's 20. I'd get at and contact the group I mentioned. They are based (I believe) in Erie, PA. They do great work. Matter of fact.......our club had a benifit 3-D shoot for them this past Sept. 10th and we raised a nice chunk of cash for their good work. wink.gif

Re: FCO (An Outdoor Ministry)

thanks for the info Strut...

I have had some postive replys on the NWTF and some folks have said that they will donate funds to help raise the money.

I am going to be calling Tim Anderson on Thursday. He's with Hunter's Specialties.

Re: FCO (An Outdoor Ministry)

Great news...We've secured the hunt!!! We are now taking up donations for his airfare and travel expenses...I'll keep everyone posted....

I've sold a few calls and have a check for $50.00 and a Money Order for $80.00 that will be used in the funding.

I was contacted last night by a fella and his wife from Miss. who are going to help secure the cost of the rental car for the three day hunt...so through many prayers and blessings...Eric will get to take his Osceloa this spring!!!

Thank you for your prayers and willingness to help this young man.

Re: FCO (An Outdoor Ministry)

The donations are slowly comming in...We've got a total of $280.00 right now...we're shootin' for $1000....that would cover everything...but even if the donations fall short...God's plan will show in the end.
