AJ
Anyone interested in hunting New Mexico in 2007, the proclamation has been published. There are some new rules on antler restrictions for deer and elk. There is also a new broken horn oryx hunt. You can read all about it here. jdickey
Re: 2007 New Mexico Proclamation The deer & elk antler rules are the same as 2006! Only the prices changed!
AJ
Re: 2007 New Mexico Proclamation [ QUOTE ] The deer & elk antler rules are the same as 2006! Only the prices changed! [/ QUOTE ] Actually, this is not correct. The deer had a minimum of 3 points per side in most areas and this year its a fork horn minimum. And with elk, many units are now either sex instead of mature bull or anterless only. Not all units changed, but many did.
Guest Colorado Bob
Re: 2007 New Mexico Proclamation Out of luck on apllying for broken horn oryx----I already did the "once in a lifetime" White Sands hunt. Only thing that interests me is maybe a javelina-------Got any leads down there AJ ? CB
AJ
Re: 2007 New Mexico Proclamation I am learning the areas from some guys at work. I went quail hunting a couple days before Thanksgiving and I saw 2 javalina. You can do an "off the range" hunt for oryx. I talked with a guide here and he offered to take me this year for only $2500. I think I will wait and pay $150 next year. I may hold off on my "once in a lifetime" hunt for oryx. I might put in for the depredation hunts or the broken horn hunts. If I like them, I will go for a trophy.
Guest Colorado Bob
Re: 2007 New Mexico Proclamation AJ-----to be honest you don't need a guide if you get on the White Sands Range. It's a DIY hunt, now a depredation hunt could be a different story----but I thought the Game Dept would tell you which ranch they were on & The days you could hunt. If I were you---I would go for a broken horn hunt as my 1st choice. Anyway you look at it you have some long odds at drawing. But you can't draw if you don't put in. I'll use the $1500 for my WY moose appliciation this year-----I'v already done the oryx. Keep me in mind for the javelina------sounds like a nice weekend hunt. AJ
Re: 2007 New Mexico Proclamation Yeah, but usually they require an escort while on the range. They do have some hunts available to people badged for WSMR. We are working on getting that for my group. If that happens, it opens up a whole new set of hunts that are not open to Joe average. I will think about the little piggy hunt.
texastrophies
Re: 2007 New Mexico Proclamation Looking into NM, for a mule deer hunt. But having a little problem trying to determine the WT vs MD range. Any suggestions on where I might be able to find this info.
