WABS
I used to bowhunt back in the mid eighties, but I was in the Army, traveling around and ended up being stationed where bowhunting wasn't really an option. Now that I'm retired and plan on living in one spot for awhile I'm thinking of getting my bow back out. Here's the question, do I get my Jennings Forked Lightening out and take it to a bow shop to get it retuned and re-outfitted (string / sights) or do I just go ahead and buy a new rig? My preference is to try and get by with my old bow if at all possible. Any thoughts??
Straight Shooter
Re: Getting back into bow hunting I'd first go arond and check out what kind of pro shops are in your area. Talk with them an see what they've got used and in good shape, start shooting again and make the the choice for yourself on upgrading or not and what type of equipment you want. Guest Finn
Re: Getting back into bow hunting Welcome back to bowhunting. Hard to say with your old bow...have realistic expectations of what a pro shop can do with it. If you know the shop is good, they'll steer you right. WABS
Re: Getting back into bow hunting I know for sure that it need a new bow string and I also want to go to a fiber optic pin sight. Any recommendation on the type sight. I have an old sight that has 4 pins (metal) that twist in and out and also slide up and down. I painted the tips white years ago. Guest Deepwoods1
Re: Getting back into bow hunting I shoot the Cobra Sidewinder. It has alot of fiber optic rapping that collects more light than most fiber optic pins. This allows me to shoot at low light conditions without using a sight light. It also has 3 pins. The more pins on your sight, the less of the animal your going to see. Plus you might get the pins mixed up. Whatever you get, try to keep it simple. Less moving parts decreases the chance of mechanical failure. Good luck! Welcome back to the to bow hunting!!

bucknut
Re: Getting back into bow hunting Yah the Cobra Sidewinder sight is awesome!!! I have the 5 pin modlel and wow is it great in low light conditions.. even when its very dark you can still see the pins glowing.I highly recommend it!!.. As far as your bow set up is concerned, i would probably go and test out a few new bows, the technology these days are unreal.. Im a big fan of the Bowtechs personally!
