I finally have the same opportunity, to go on a whitetail hunt. For years I have dreamed on a Canadian hunt, so a friend & I have finally booked! We looked at Sask, Alberta and finally settled on a hunt in Manitoba!

I can't wait.

[/ QUOTE ] Which Outfitter in Manitoba did you book with?

Since we are talking bowhunting, my 1st choice would be Iowa. If you don't have any preference points built up though you won't be able to draw an archery tag there next year. You probably need 2 preference points for a bow tag now.

My 2nd choice would be Kansas but once again, you'll need some preference points to draw a tag. I drew a tag with only 1 preference point this year.

My 3rd choice would be the Milk River in Montana. You'll probably see more deer there than Iowa or Kansas but your chances for a shot opportunity at a monster buck are better in Iowa and Kansas.

Ohio and Illinois are also great places to consider and both are fairly easy to get tags. Ohio is over the counter and Illinois is a draw but if you apply early, your odds are great you'll draw a tag. I've hunted Illinois twice (Pike County) and have no complaints but I prefer the other 3 states over Illinois for bowhunting. Never hunted Ohio but there sure are a lot of fine bucks coming out of there these days.

My last choice would be Texas. There are some great deer that come out of Texas but outfitters there are more pricy with their hunts than the other states mentioned. Many of the better outfitters charge a trophy fee for the hunt. Some include an additional cost of about $100 per inch over a set gross score. License and tags are over the counter though.

Iowa. Dad hunts shotgun there knows a farmer but hunts all public land. last 2 yrs down there his group has shot 3 170+ couple 150s and a few 140 class deer. and have pictures and have seen many they believe to be in the 180's 190's. farmers brother also shot a deer that went over 200 with his bow and said there are always a few around there.
