Question?

This past Oct. I shot a decent buck, turned out to be a bad arrow placement. I did however recover the deer two weeks later. By then, of course nothing was left but the antlers. I tagged the buck ( 11-point), and cut the skull cap off. I am wanting to get the buck re-caped. My question is what is the average cost? I heard it can be as much as getting a regular mount done. And since this is my first real "antlered buck", any suggestions on how to have it mounted? Sneak, Semi-sneak, turned?

Re: Question?

Re: Question?

There are no "averages" when it comes to capes because it all depends on what someone is willing to give you for them. The main factors effecting price is the size and quality of the cape. $50 wouldnt touch a nice 23"er in my area, so if I were you, I would hang out at a local processor or hunting club and see if somebody will give you one. What part of the country are you in?

Re: Question?

only reson i think it is $50.00 because the taxidermist asks friends to give him thiers so he can charge less than others in the area. he charges $500.00 for a shoulder mount so he wants to give you a little break.

Re: Question?

The buck scores around 135", give or take. He had a thick neck, and the proverbial "roman nose" of an older deer. So it's gonna take a larger size cape for sure. The other option I was thinking is contacting a couple taxidermists after the huntin' season to see if they have any unused or extra capes. BTW, I live in Southwest Ohio, we have more than enough deer around these parts, so hopefully I can find a cape that'll match, or at least come close.
