kind of stupid

I know we all see things that make us wonder from time to time. I cannot help but ask if this type of thing is common elsewhere. I notice things in the paper from time to time in the classifieds that really leave me with questions. Example, just last week there was a 2004 model honda 4 wheeler just like the one we gave $4500 for brand new from the dealership. The person in the paper was asking $4800 for it used and the bike has more hours and miles on it then ours does and is stock. Maybe the seller paid too much in the first place, or maybe they expect to make money on a used atv, but I cannot help but wonder who would pay that for it. Aside from the craze items like the ps3 and tickle me elmos, do people out there really pay more than the new cost on stuff like this without checking?

Re: kind of stupid

I see people put things in the paper all the time around here for WAY more than it is worth, sometimes for what they paid for it brand new or more just like what you read in the paper. I wonder if it is because so many people finance things for so long that they need to get more than they paid for it to get out of debt. I had to learn that the hard way when I was younger. Won't happen again.

Re: kind of stupid

yep i see it alot, the way i think of it maybe is when they ask for more than its worth, i dont think they are trying to sell it to the people who will really look into and find what its really worth, i think they are targeting the people maybe like kids, that might not no anything about the product and think its a deal and will buy it no matter what, thats what ive always thought

Re: kind of stupid

There are a lot of ways to separate a fool from his/her money. Some people are needing to get a certain price to get out of a financial hole, some look at the suggested retail for a new model and think a used one is worth almost as much, some look to take advantage of a popular item, and some are just looking for a fool. It does make you wonder though.

Re: kind of stupid

You'd be surprised at what people will pay for something. Last year when I was looking for a newer vehicle than my 86 GMC Jimmy, I was looking at some single cab Rangers, used. I found a couple '97s around town at buy here/pay heres. The most I was looking at was between $2500- $3000. Keep in mind the NADA for that truck was I think $1700. I went on the Carmax website and looked at vehicles here in Fayetteville. They had a '97 Ranger, single cab, manual tranny, high miles, for $7000!!!! I about passed out. I even called the dealership to make sure it wasn't a typo or something. When he said that was the price I told them they were CRAZY to ask that much. I told him the NADA value. He stated the obvious "Well, sell prices are always going to be a little higher than trade-in values" Well, no *&%&*^ Sherlock, but $500 - $ 1000 over trade-in is acceptable, but to stand to make almost a $6000 profit is just a tad bit excessive IMHO. Especially on that type of vehicle, and you know what, some idiot paid that for it, because it wasn't there much long after I looked at it.

the real stupid part is someone WILL buy those overpriced items..

That is what gets me right there. People will pay more than the new price for things that they are unaware that they can get brand new for with a warranty for less crazy.gif. Why is it I can never seem to find these types of people when I try to sell things for fair prices confused.gif.
