Guest Clay008
Does anyone reload .223 rounds? What equipment do you use?
AJ
Re: Reloading .223 Yep, I have been loading for them about 10 years now. When I work up a load for them, I use my RCBS Rockchucker, Redding dies, Once the load is developed, I load them on my Dillon 650 so I can crank out a high volume of them. I have been using Hodgdon BL-C(2), ignited by a Federal 205 Gold Medal Match primer and the Speer TNT 50 gr bullet. The case is Remington that has been neck turned to 95% cleanup, flash hole deburred, and the primer pocket squared and uniformed. It has sent many a varmint into pieces. Guest Clay008
Re: Reloading .223 Thanks for the info AJ. How much do you figure it costs to make one round?
AJ
Re: Reloading .223 I have no idea. I buy components in bulk and have not bought any in quite a few years now. So any prices are not valid today. I bought 1000 bullets, 8 # of powder, primers by the sleeve of 5000. The .223 Rem ammo these days is pretty cheap. If you just want banging rounds for the range, there are great buys on surplus ammo. I will shoot some FMJ stuff at paper and save my "good stuff" for varmint hunting. Guest Clay008
Re: Reloading .223 That is what I am thinking. It might be cheaper for me to buy the surplus stuff than to reload. I guess I will have to do some shopping and figure all of that out.
AJ
Re: Reloading .223 Unless you have a press, dies, etc, it will definately be cheaper to shoot bulk factory ammo. The benefit is you can tailor your loads to what your gun likes, not deal with how it performs. But if you are just banging away at paper or using it to build your shooting skill like shooting offhand, sitting, various ranges, etc, the factory stuff will work just fine. Factory ammo in just about any gun will shoot better than most people will from hunting positions out past 150 yards.
Guest Clay008
Re: Reloading .223 99.9% of my shooting is done at the range and, I have not been to a range over 100 yards so it looks like I will keep buying the cheap stuff. WaCoyote
Re: Reloading .223 AJ, do you load for an AR? What are some of the cleaner powders? I'm having an AR built and I'm still debating whether or not to reload for it. I hear that some of the powders fowl them up a bit.
AJ
Re: Reloading .223 One of my 223 guns is an AR15. I have a Handi Rifle, Savage 110 J, and the flattop AR. The only powder I have shot in my AR with reloads is BL-C(2). The BL-C(2) is a ball powder that is so so for cleanliness. It is a ball powder and it provides good speed and great accuracy. Vihtavuori N133 is a great powder that is pretty clean, very accurate, but costs a bit more.
