dartonman
Re: WHY am I FLINCHING??? try using a different release.....another idea is to stand in front of the target (really close), draw the bow, close your eyes and focus on squeezing the trigger of the release very slowly, as if its a suprise...this helps me break my flinching....I also count to three while pulling the trigger on the release, always holding the bow upward, past three during these drills....you may just need a new release....al
RyanH
Re: WHY am I FLINCHING??? I dont have another release! I think im gonna buy one! VermontHunter
Re: WHY am I FLINCHING??? Ryan, Being new to archery I was flinching alot and couldn't figure it out. I finally gave in and got my father to watch me shoot, he's been at it along time and does alot of competition shooting. He said I was trying too hard to anticipate the shot, this is what he had me do it's much like target panic he had me shoot at a blank target, just hit the target and don't worry about where you hit it just relax and let the release and bow do the work for you. After a little while of this I wasn't flinching anymore, go figure. I think since you had a problem with your release your concentrating on it to much to see if it's functioning properly, which is causing you to flinch. Just and observation and hope you figure it out from what I hear you're one heck of a shot... Good Luck

dg
Re: WHY am I FLINCHING??? Think about aiming and only aiming. You are flinching because you are anticipating (thinking) about the shot. Quit thinking about it and just AIM until the arrow hits the target! hoyt19
Re: WHY am I FLINCHING??? Ive had a similar problem and had a pretty good idea on how to fix it. Get someone to shoot with you. Hook your release onto your string and you normally would, draw your bow, hold on target then have your friend push the trigger on the release for you. Youll have to concentrate on holding your pin on the target and not flinching
buckee
Re: WHY am I FLINCHING??? Ryan...I don't know how your holding your bow, but when you draw, try drawing with your grip hand open instead of grasping the bow. When you get drawn, just bring your fingers back to gently touch the front of the grip ...Deep breath., slowly float over your bullseye.,let out breath slowly a bit, hold and release. It helps you get rid of torque problems and helps you concentrate on the target.
RyanH
Re: WHY am I FLINCHING??? Buckee thats much better and more what I expected from you! LOL Thanks man Ill put all these pratices together and see what happens tomorrow!
billygoat
Re: WHY am I FLINCHING??? I think I know Ryan... cut it down to 1 can of Mt. Dew and 1 cup of coffee a day.... might calm those shakes.
Guest cornbread
Re: WHY am I FLINCHING??? Is the length of your release adjustable? If it is set it to the shortest setting so that your not using the tip of your finger but the first joint. When doing this you will be pulling the trigger and release and not pushing it down. This will also help with your accuracy. Also when you are shooting dont think you have to hold the pin still on your target but let it float in small circles. Also dont punch the trigger or even squeeze the trigger but try to pull your shoulder blade together and this will cause your finger to pull the triger. The bow shot that you want is one that is a surprize when it goes off.
Guest madabouthuntin
Re: WHY am I FLINCHING??? My nephew has been doing that alot as well here lately. His problem has been the fear of hitting his arm with his string. This is causing him to flinch when he releases the arrow. Like some has already said, RELAX when you are shooting. Remember you are doing this for ENJOYMENT, not as a punishment. I can tell you that when I have thought too much about what I am doing, I mess up! but when I don't think (too much) and just do what I know how to do, I normally do much better... if not close to perfect. I have found this to be true when shooting, golfing or anything of this nature. Good Luck!! Steve
LifeNRA
Re: WHY am I FLINCHING??? I was flinching because the Cabela's brand release was WAY TOO SENITIVE!!! Just the touch from the glove would set it off before I was ready! I took it back and bought this one from Tru-Fire, Hurricane with power strap. Its adjustable trigger and length! Chrud
Re: WHY am I FLINCHING??? I don't think I've ever had a problem with flinching or trigger punching. I love a REAL LIGHT trigger. I would try a different release. Also, try what Al suggested. The main thing is to squeeze not pull.
Guest KSNimrod
Re: WHY am I FLINCHING??? If all of the above fail, you can always shoot fingers! Works for me. I wouldn't be quick to give up the release though, it seems to work great for a lot of shooters that can shoot better than I can.
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: WHY am I FLINCHING??? I have a Tru-Fire and you can set it up either way. Pull the trigger or let off from the trigger. Maybe your anticipated the kick!! Like some gun hunters do!! Try another release Ryan and see what happens. Good luck. Let us all know the fix. hoosierhunter
Re: WHY am I FLINCHING??? make sure you pull through the trigger....A lot of people "punch" a release and that will cause a flinch....Simply pull through the trigger and that might elimate that..... RyanH
Re: WHY am I FLINCHING??? Guys thank you so much for your help! I am shooting much better!
