dogdoc
i think your talking about attractant scents such as apple or persimmon. I don't know about using them as a drag lure--never tried it. You want to use one that the deer are familiar with--if you have apple trees or persimmon trees then you can make a scent bomb using the food type lures to try to attract a doe or buck to your stand. Personally I have never had any luck using the food attractant scents. todd
dartonman
Re: food lures Tim.....I use a scent called Trails End 307......its great, it smells like black licorice candy....and its legal in Illinois...if you use a food source, ie corn, beans, peanut butter on a tree, its illegal in Illinois, and considered baiting........find some Trails End 307....and Im moving this thread to Deer Hunting, as this is not the right forum....no biggie buddy...good luck remainder of season..........al
horst
Re: food lures krimit, i seen a product at wallmart last year.cant recall who made it but it was a gel you could squirt out that smelled like corn or other narural foods. It looked like a great cover scent if you were hunting near a food source and would probably be a good attractant scent in the late season.Wish I could remember who made it, maybe someone else in here knows what im talking about
Guest deldeer
Re: food lures i used buck jam this year ( persimmons). it is kind of like a gallon jug jelly. i have never had a luck with any kind of deer scents or urines & i have used them to a teee, however i put this buckjam stuff out at the end of an evening hunt, & went to that stand the next morning & at day break i had 10 doe's pawing at the log and eating the mud!!!!!! unreal!!!!...but i haven't seen them go back to it yet, they just walk by it now???? I have some. Don't really think it works. Hubby always laughs cause I call it buck snot. Evolved Habitats is the company who makes it. They also make the Buck Jam, Stump Licker and Deer Cane. Evolved Habitats [/ QUOTE ] Thats the stuff, never tried it myself, didnt think a corn lure would do much good in the middle of Iowa LOL. wtnhunt
Re: food lures Would be kind of skeptical about trying to use a drag with a food scent. Deer are smart enough to know where food sources are. Something like using a white oak acorn scent as a cover scent if you are hunting in oaks would be good though. Might try a curiousity scent like the trails end mentioned above if you are looking for a drag scent.
VTbowman
Re: food lures Best advice is to try and use a product that matches something already out in your hunting area... IE corn scent if you got corn out there... As for luring deer. Salt, mineral based products work real good. But check your local laws. Thats illegal in VT (salt). Sorry I can not suggest speciafic man made since I do not use anything other then feed store corn and some Antler King pellets during spring and summer. Which IMO opinion help the deer but not the hunting. Oh we put out apples late this year and they seemed to draw in some doe.
