Guest nebhunter
Howdy ya'll. I'm tring to put together my very first elk hunt next year and plan on going to colorado. I have been doing some research via the web and was wondering if anyone has ever hunted the White River National Forest. Not really looking for a trophy type bull just looking for a place where I can "cut my teeth" on a few average bulls. I have 10 days set aside for my hunt next year and was thinking of doing a elk/deer combo. From the information that I have found it looks like both the elk and deer herds in White River are pretty solid.
Guest Phaseolus (BeanMan)
Re: elk hunting Neb, The White river area is pretty big so it is hard to be specific. The herd is large, so are the number of hunters. You shouldn't expect a trophy type bull because they don't live long enough in those units to get there (that's true for most of Colorado). But there are plenty of them and if you are willing to hike and get away from roads you should get into them. Since you said ten days I'm assuming you are planning on a archery hunt? good luck, keep in touch Beanman
Guest nebhunter
Re: elk hunting Nah..not to worried about getting a trophy sized bull. Just wanting get into elk hunting as I've never done it I have alot to learn. The only part of Colorado that I know is the Estes Park area. Not really sure if there is any public areas around there or not. I've just picked up bits and pieces of info off of forums. One area that keeps popping up is the White River area. I'm actually planning on a riffle hunt for my first time. I'm planning on going a few days in advance of the season to check things out a bit, do a little scouting ect. My passion is bowhunting so eventually I'm going to focus on that. Thanks for the info I really appreciate it.
