I was just woundering how many of you are still using fixed power scopes on your hunting rifles.I have found myself going back to fixed 4x scopes the last few years for my hunting needs. Please tell us about the guns that you have fixed power scopes on and what you use them for.

Re: How many still use fixed power scopes

HMMMMM I still used fixed power scopes.

I have Leupold M8 12x, 20x and 24x scopes on some varmint guns. Have a few of the old steel tubed Weaver K series on some deer rifles and a couple of the older Redfield fixed wide fields on 22's.

Had an 10x fixed Schmidt & Bender..... kinda wish I still had it.

Nothing wrong with them at at but these days everyone uses mostly variables

Re: How many still use fixed power scopes

Personally I have never had one. (I'm only 20 though. grin.gif) A lot of my uncles do have them on their hunting rifles though. A few of them have fixed 4x and one has a 2.5x I believe. They'd be okay if you're not shooting a wide range of different distances. But for myself I use the 3-9x and 4-12x on my deer/moose rifles, and a 6-18x on my varmint rifle.

Re: How many still use fixed power scopes

I currently have a fixed power scope on my deer rifle,a Burris fullfeild 4x on a Mossberg ATR100,I like this combo for a budget deer rifle.I just got a new Remington in 300wm that will most likley get a veriable on it as soon as I can save up some cash

I use an IER 2.75 X 32 Leupold on my Marlin 1895 45/70. Aj gave me some advice on this a couple of years ago and it turned out to be a great set-up. Super fast target aquisition.

Re: How many still use fixed power scopes

I have an old Redfield 4X on my Marlin 1894 .44 Mag. I still carry it occasionally when I'm rattling for someone else. I'll bury up in the brush for my rattling session and that rifle is perfect if I need to make a quick close quarters shot on a buck that slips past the primary shooter.

Re: How many still use fixed power scopes

I have shied away from fixed power only because I like the versatility of variable power. When still hunting I normally carry my rifle with the scope set on its lowest power. This is because it affords me the widest field of view. This can be useful if a deer jumps up and you have to find it in your scope. Then, if I am checking deer standing a distance away in a field I can crank her up and get a good look!

Often times I have heard fixed power is a clearer scope. I think with todays optics there isn't enough, if any, difference to worry about.
