I am planning on going out for spring turkey this season it will be my first time out. I was wondering if you could give me some pointers on scouting, setting up, and calling I can use the box, glass/slate, and push buttion but would really like to use my mouth calls could you give me any pointers? I am planning on buying the MTA: Turkey series by Primos to help some.

Thanks Ahead,

Brad

Re: I need Help for Turkey

where are you planning on hunting ?

i would get out as soon as possible and find where the birds are now, keep in mind that they'll seperate and their behaviors will change around the spring time...but it'll give you a place to start looking.....look for dusting bowls, feathers, tracks and poo, male turkeys have a J shaped terd.

what i like to do is find the bird(s) i'll be wanting to go after, i try to watch and to see if they have some kind of pattern.like mine last season, he made this loop daily and roosted in the same area everyday, took all day but they'd head north for the day and come back around 4 ish... all i would do once i got there to hunt was hoot like an owl, he'd gobble, i'd get as close to him as i could without being too close, then i'd do a tree yelp and i'd shut up until he flew down, then i'd let him hear me again.still took 3 days to get him, but i had him gobbling every morning, it was great....not much on calling with a mouth call, i can yelp a lil, but thats about it, lol....

if you can't find the bird you want, you could always try getting them with a locator call, hang out for a few, if nothing, move on , try it again, you might get lucky and hear a gooble and if that doesnt work, set up where you have seen them and hang out, sometimes they just don't feel very vocal....Good Luck
