bowana
1 Glock I'm a 1911 fan through and through and the glock is an "ugly duckling", but it is simply the easiest and most durable pistol to operate and engage that there is period! Throw in a custom drop in KKM barrel a 3 1/2 lb trigger kit and you have a custom shooter! 2. Sig Arms-The P220 and 226 are timeless. Even the Navy Seals went back to them. Sigs are smooth in the Double action mode. Holster very well. My favorite is the P220 (Yea, I have a .45 fetish) 3. The Smith and Taurus .38's The Tarus model 850 CIA is a real bargin and a fantastic 5 shot revolver. They do not fail and can be fired from and through a pocket. The Smith feather lites are a pleasure to carry. You would be suprized by the power of a 38+P round. I carried one in a ankle holster a many moon ago. 4.H&K USP Somewhat a new kid on the block, these pistols are real shooters. the compact 40 cal is about the finest 12 shot mid sized auto money can buy. Although a little pricey, they are rugged, accurate and easy to disassemble. the OD Green lower and matte finish upper make them a handsome piece (I know they don't need to look good). 5 Good quality 1911's Smith, Springfield Armory and Para make good quality units. I rank them 5th because the are more for intermediate to advanced shooters. They take the longest to clean and require know how in the "cocked and locked" mode. But, once mastered they are the easiest full sized pistol to carry in the concealed mode. The 1911PD (4 1/2" barrel) is a real shooter and sleeper for the price. I carry a Wilson Combat close quarters combat. Yea, its expensive, but so is a funeral. It is the finest shooting instument that I have ever held. Sleepers: If you can find a good used Smith and Wesson 6906 9mm, you have won the Lotto! A masterpiece Colt Python 4" 357; the 357 still rules the roost. This is one of the smoothest double action revolvers in existance the new Springfield polymer pistols. Not proven yet, but they shoot very, very well. OK guys, start ripp'in away! I know I have some critics and I know I've missed some!!!!!!

TexasDeerHunter
Re: Top 5 Carry Guns (Civilian CCW) I carry a Colt Officer's 1911, my wife has a Glock 19. Sig 220 would be my third choice.
bowana
Re: Top 5 Carry Guns (Civilian CCW) The 5906 is a full size 15 shot gun. Its barrel is 4" in length and it weighs 38.3 oz. The 6906 is a mid sized/compact frame 12 shot gun. Its barrel is 3.5" and it weighs a mere 26.5 oz. The hammer is inset, and the pistol I had was ahead of its time....very smooth. snapper
Re: Top 5 Carry Guns (Civilian CCW) [ QUOTE ] They take the longest to clean [/ QUOTE ] Clean? Maybe the Glock crowd has to clean their guns...but my para's were only clean when they were new in the box. I'd like to take a look at Tarus's new wheel gun...the Judge. Shoots 45 long colt or 410 shot shells...410 in a wheel gun would make a great carry gun.
bowana
Re: Top 5 Carry Guns (Civilian CCW) Being a 1911 nut case, I know what you mean about the Glock crowd. But the botton line is....."If you can't beat em, join em". I own two Glocks: 1 a glock 22 with a KKM barrel, extended slide release, 3 1/2 lb trigger kit and Millet nite sites. It shoots like a dream. I also have an M6 light/lazer system attached. It sets in my safe on the night stand. 2 Glock33: In the hands of an experinced shooter. The mini 357 sig is a whole lot of fire power in an easy to carry rig. This is my favorite out of the box pistol. I do have two finger extensions on the magazines. makes the pistol easier to control. Even though it is small, the glock minis are very accurate.I carry this pistol while hunting out west. It slips in and out of my cargo pants with ease. I would not hesitate to engage a bear at point blank range. The 357 sig packs a punch!!!!!! Still...as good as they are, I still prefer the 1911's. LONG LIVE THE 45AUTO MODEL 1911!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guest Xen
Re: Top 5 Carry Guns (Civilian CCW) i think you should also reference the 239 in the sig line, thinner than the 229 glocks have a great finish, the polymer frame makes them lighter and a bit easier to carry when weight is a concern I still like my steyr over a glock - has a drop-down safety in front of the trigger, also has the trigger safety. 1911's are great, but a bit heavy and the .45 is something a lot of women can't handle. i think to be considered #1 for concealed, it would have to be something that even a lady can use. bowana
Re: Top 5 Carry Guns (Civilian CCW) AH Ha you caught one that I missed! I also forgot Walther. I would agree that the 1911 is a bit large, but it still is rather easy to conceal. It is somewhat big for a lady. Interesting point on being small enough for a woman would qualify for the rest. It does have some merit.

But the 5906 is nothing more of a comp gun now with the trigger job and the lighter weight springs, even though I dont shoot comp anymore. I probably should change the orignal springs back and start shooting it more.
snapper
Re: Top 5 Carry Guns (Civilian CCW) Not all 1911 frames are large and .45acp. You can get a Colt in .38 super...and some smaller framed 1911's for carry. Heck, I'm sure there are some 9mm that are built simular to a 1911 frame. bowana
Re: Top 5 Carry Guns (Civilian CCW) Yep!! This is what I wanted to see. The model 36 Glock would be a great choice; WOW we have some exxpertise! Why the 1911 in just 45 auto? The 38 super, 9mm, 10mm, etc. What about the .400 corbon? Anyone heard of that one. You guys are great critics! Can't believe how nice you are about one guys decisions. Goes to show you, us hanggunas are a cut above the rest. Keep the thought process going. We just might educate someone....**** it will probably be me!
