Sorry Ohio State Fans.

But it looks like Detroit will more than likely be getting the #1 pick in the draft with the worst record in the NFL and two remaining games against Chicago and Dallas. That means Troy Smith will proably be headed to the motor city......Than again, its Detroit so they might use the #1 pick on a long snapper, punter, or another receiver. smirk.gif

Re: Sorry Ohio State Fans.

i doubt they will take troy smith...they need to work on thier O line..i see them taking the lineman from Wisconsin first...and if they do decide to make the mistake of taking a QB first, it won't be Troy Smith, he won't be a top ten pick...maybe not even top 15...Brady Quinn and Jamarcus Russel will go before he will

Re: Sorry Ohio State Fans.

the lions don't have a whole lot they can trade away to put together to get a decent line....why draft a QB if there is no one to protect them? Kitna is good for another year, and marinelli has already said he is going to be the QB next year. Kitna isn't a bad QB, he just needs time to throw the ball...build the O-line up to get the QB more time and to help the running game, besides, the Lions don't have a lot they can trade away. Troy Smith will make a better "slash" type of player than a QB in the NFL...the Texans didn't make a mistake in not taking young, they made a mistake in taking mario williams....they were in the same postion the lions are, they needed an offensive line...theirs or the lions passing games aren't horrible, but they allow to much pressure on their QBs

Detroit will be choosing OU's Adrian Peterson with the #1 pick.

[/ QUOTE ]

If that is true it will be the 3rd All-Star back with Oklahoma (the state) ties the Lions have chosen that will never win a Super Bowl. Let's see---2 Heisman winners from Oklahoma were drafted by the Lions--one who can easily be in the top 5 ever to play that position in the NFL and never went to the Super Bowl--what a poor excuse for an organization--right up there with the Cardinals. Too bad Billy Sims and Barry Sanders had to play for such a lousy team.

Kevin--for A.D.'s sake I hope your wrong. I really don't think AD will be the #1 pick due to his inability to stay healthy--but I could be wrong.

Re: Sorry Ohio State Fans.

During the Philadelphia game, they stated one of the biggest problems in Detroit. Jeff Garcia said after practice and everybody went home, most everybodys play books were in their lockers. How in the world do you expect to successfully run plays when you dont even study them to know them?? confused.gif IMO, Kitna is old, slow, makes alot of bad decisions and wont be around for much longer. Sure, he has completed alot of passes, but hes also made more throws than any other quarterback. Not to mention all the interceptions and fumbles. crazy.gifNow that you will probably have the #1 pick and having 2 great quarterbacks in the draft, why not pick one up? Detroits o-line is horrible, but thats just lack of discipline and coaching. If they can pick up a couple decent vetran o-lineman in the off season, it could make a difference. And at running back, your eventually going to have Kevin Jones and 2 other running backs back next season. I personally wouldnt waste a pick on a o-lineman, 1 lineman isnt going to change the whole line. I mean, look at Robert Gallery in Oakland, hes probably one of the best in the NFL, but it hasnt helped the Raiders much.

Re: Sorry Ohio State Fans.

he is 4th in yardage, 9th in YPA...but he also has been sacked the most out of any other QB in the league. imagine how much better his numbers would be if his line where better, less INTs and a higher completion percentage (which isn't horrible right now)...i agree he won't be around much longer...but get a line together before you go out and draft another QB or skill postion player...that offensive line will open up holes for your running game and when that happens, it opens up your passing game. draft the top lineman in the draft (which will go in the top 3 in the draft if the lions don't take him)and pick up a veteran in the offeseason...then start working on their defense...mostly DBs...if kevin jones had a line to run behind, he could put up good numbers....but when you get hit in the backfield everytime you touch the ball...you aren't going to get much done, i would love to see the lions get some superstar player at QB, but they don't need that right now...decent QBs come out every year...only a few actually will make it in the NFL, its not to often you get a lineman who is ranked this high and you have a chance to take them...and most lineman live up to their potential...and as for the playbooks being left in the locker room...wouldn't surpise me...this is a team who filed a grievance with the league because they complained they were being worked to hard...and they wonder why the suck smirk.gif

isn't this the 3rd year in a row we've had this discussion about the Lions???

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah Todd, and we will probably be having the same conversation for the next 30 years about the Lions. smirk.gif

grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

Heck--my grandkids and your kids will be having this discussion--probably in this same room grin.gif I'll be moderating from a nursing home getting sponge baths from some cute nurse and the Lions will still be getting a top 5 draft pick every year!!!

Re: Sorry Ohio State Fans.

There is no way Troy Smith goes in the top 10, prehaps even the Top 20. It's probably going to come down to either the Raiders or the Lions. Both will probably screw it up. I am guessing the top pick is either going to be Brady Quinn or Brian Brohm(if he leaves early). Of course the Lions off-season will be a success if they get rid of Matt Millin. Talk about a worthless GM. Assuming the Lions get and keep the pick and don't draft a QB, then I think the big LT from Wisconsin will go #1.

Could Troy Smith be the next Gino Toretta or Tommy Frazier?

[/ QUOTE ]

I doubt it...unlike Frazier, he will actually be drafted...and not in the 7th round like torretta..he will probably go in the bottom part of the first round...IMO he is going to be like kordell Stewart...he can do more than play quarterback, and i think his first few years he is going to make an impact for a team somewhere other than quarterback.

Re: Sorry Ohio State Fans.

i don't think he will get drafted that high as an all purpose player! if they don't want him for a qb he will not go in the first round. jmho! and its not like he can't throw or scramble or both! to do that well in the big 10 with those defenses!!! come on! he will be a qb in the nfl but the question is whether he goes late in the draft and ends up a back up for 3-5 yrs!! LOL

Re: Sorry Ohio State Fans.

I never said he will never be an NFL QBhe will be drafted that high as a quarterback, and more than likely won't start at QB right away...but he won't sit the bench as a back up QB, he has to much talent to just sit there for 2, 3, or 4 years, he can do other things to help a team other than play QB...
