Guest SRA
again??? why do people even support these thugs by going to the games???
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Re: Basketbrawl.... i wouldn't classify all of them as thugs...one bad apple spoils the bunch (is that how it goes?) that was a pretty sad display of sportsmanship by both teams...a foul that hard is uncalled for....but to retaliate like that is even worse and it gives the rest of the league a black eye.....its funny, this is what..the second "fight" in the past couple years..and everyone is a thug...hockey players fight all the time, but "its part of the game" and gets put on highlight reels....sad
Nick
Re: Basketbrawl.... Ok, why is it OK for hockey players to fight but not basketball players or any other athletes? I'm pretty sure they all got the same reasons for fighting.....
slugshooter
Re: Basketbrawl.... I guess because in hockey it's usually just one on one. In baseball and basketball and apparently now college football, it's the whole group of them going at it. Honestly, it shouldn't be condoned in any sport, but it seems to be part of the game when it comes to hockey. A lot of the time in hockey, it's to get the crowd riled up, or to get the team more pumped up. I used to go to minor league hockey games here in town, there was one game, right at the start before the puck dropped, two guys threw down their gloves and went at it for no apparent reason. It almost seems like they stage it sometimes, sometimes though it's because of a high stick or some other type foul that one player keeps doing on the other guy. The fight last year though with Detroit players and fans was just absolutely pathetic.
Nick
Re: Basketbrawl.... [ QUOTE ] The fight last year though with Detroit players and fans was just absolutely pathetic. [/ QUOTE ] I agree, except it was the Indiana Pacer players with Detroit Fans. The fans brought it on, but is it really worth it for all the millions these guys are making? Players VS. players is a totally different situation than this brawl....
colts1888
Re: Basketbrawl.... I just want to see David Stern put his money where his mouth is. He said these type of deals would not be tolerated after the Pacers/Pistons fight. He suspended Artest for the entire year and tried to get Jermaine Oneal for 25 games, an arbitrator got that reduced to 10. Oneal hit a fan who was on the court throwing haymakers himself and with security doing nothing, it's self defense at that point IMO. Carmello last night punched a player that was standing around after things had settled down. So i'll be interested to see what Davey boy decides. It wont be 25 im almost sure, now if Melo was in a Pacer uniform it may be a different story.
slugshooter
Re: Basketbrawl.... I've often wondered though, why, when athletes get in fights, whether one on one, or bench clearing brawls, noone gets arrested, there have been very few times I've heard of possible charges being filed. If it were you or I, in a fight, our butts would be hauled off to jail. It just proves the lopsidedness of our criminal justice system. If you are rich or famous, you get treated with kid gloves. I say arrest em, let them think about it for a night in jail, and then give them community service, and not this Public Service Announcement mumbo jumbo, make them clean the bathrooms in a subway station. I bet they'll think twice before they take a swing again. Me personally, if I was making millions, I wouldn't want to do anything to jeopardize that. dogdoc
Re: Basketbrawl.... what a sick little wimp Carmello is--the punk throws a sucker punch then starts running back to his bench for cover. [ QUOTE ] what a sick little wimp Carmello is--the punk throws a sucker punch then starts running back to his bench for cover. I hope he gets a good 20 games. [/ QUOTE ] I think that's what bothers me the most. If you're gonna throw a punch, stay there and back it up. Don't run. As for the hockey reference, I think one major reason its different, is the fact that the fans are seperated from the playing surface by a wall and plexiglass. BB players are not, and look what happened in Detroit. Another reason, is like it or not, fighting is a part of the sport of hockey. Hockey players know how to handle it, and ususally fight one on one in a controlled manner. Sure, there have been brawls...but suspensions are always handed out when they happen. Todd Bertuzzi sucker punched a player then fell on him and broke his neck...I think he received a 50 game suspension.
MagnoliaHunter
The hard foul was not the reason for the fight it was because the knicks punk coach told Carmelo just before hand that anybody going inside would be taken out. edited for a typo
buckbuster11
Re: The hard foul was not the reason for the fight Suspensions coming down............ Jerrod Jeffries 4 games. JR Smith, Nate Robinson 10 games each. Carmello 15 games.
colts1888
Re: The hard foul was not the reason for the fight 15 games, more then i expected actually for Mello. Anything less then 10 would have been a discrace considering the zero tolerance act that Stern has talked about.

Isiah is a freaking joke, this is at least the second time he threatened an opposing player. He needs to worry about coaching his team and keep his mouth shut. Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Re: The hard foul was not the reason for the fight yeah, i don't doubt he said something like that, but these are grown men, just because someone tells you to do something doesn't mean you have to do it...there is a difference between a hard foul and what happened during that game....you can foul someone hard without it looking like you are trying to intentionally hurt them...what happened there was uncalled for..and until i know i know all the fact, i blame the players for it they are the ones on the court..what were the starters doing in there anyways?? they had a 18-19 poijt lead with a minute or so left in the game...all they were doing was showboating and rubbing it in...IMO the messege he sent to carmelo was more of a 'if you are going to be out there trying to rub it in then be prepared to be fouled hard'...no coach wants to se his team embarassed like that, and it is the nuggets coach fault as well for leaving his starters in with that big of a lead.... superguide
Re: The hard foul was not the reason for the fight I have alot less trouble with two hockey guys going at it-than what passes in other sports-baseball-pitchers throw at batters-guys run down catchers who are completely exposed-football-swinging your helmet-cleating a guys face. I guees uinless you've played hockey at a competitive level you wouldn't understand it-but I'd rather drop the mitts with a guy than have somebody shoot a puck at my head just because I'm having a good game. Bowhntr
Re: Basketbrawl.... Personally, I've had it with these self centered, overpayed, childish, thugs and punks. I don't care if it is hockey, football, baseball, basketball, or tetherball this crap needs to stop. Fining a player $100,000 who has a 4 year $25 million contract is like fining any of us 25 cents. Give me a break Just my opinion but if the powers that be in any league want this to stop then put the offender's happy butts in THE STREET for good. Put them back out here in the real world with the rest of us mere mortals. Cancell those multi-million contracts and FIRE THEM, end of story. I know if I behaved on my JOB (which playing a game is theirs) I would be fired no questions asked. Yes, my job requires that I be in the public eye as well. However, not nearly to the extent that these thugs are. Just my two cents but I'd love to see some firings over crap like this.

[/ QUOTE ] Couldn't agree more about Isiah - I went home for lunch and saw the footage of him clearly telling Denver players to stay out of the lane....and then heck breaks loose. Can't believe the NBA did nothing to him. I follow the Nuggets closely and know they are not playing good ball lately and badly needed a victory in NY to get back on track. They have let numerous games slip out of their hands in the 4th quarter, so I have no problem leaving the players in. I think they will be lucky to win 5 games while CA is out - just not enough fire power unless they get Iverson which is a possibility. What shame that all this got started by a head coach with no brains....I think he hung around with Lambeer for too many years.

I don't follow basketball, but I know how good/popular Carmelo Anthony is. What a coward. Throw a cheap punch and run with your tail between your legs. There is a better word to describe him, but it's not allowed.

They were up by alot with less than a minute in the game. Why is their starters even in the game? They were trying to show them up! If that was back in the Bad Boys era Mahorn or Laimbeer would have showed them a real foul!!!! That was weak!!!!! This happens all the time in hockey and nobodys says nothing. I wonder why? Carmello is a punk!!! And Nate Robinson should have got just as many games as Carmello for esscallating the whole thing.
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Re: Basketbrawl.... [ QUOTE ] How about not suspending T.O for spitting on a guy? [/ QUOTE ] a little off topic but i'll answer you. why should he be suspended?? has anyone else ever been suspended for it? he was fined twice as much as the last guy who spit on someone, only that guy got caught and ejected and T.O. didn't get caught. besides...its nothing compared to what goes on in the bottom of piles...you have guys pinching, spitting, trying to stick their fingers in other players eyes....everyone knows that goes on and do refs throw players out or does the league fine them??? its football. they should suck it up and let it go
superguide
Re: Basketbrawl.... Do you honestly think that spitting in an opponents face is part of any game-do you think it makes T.O a 'tough' guy-what a farce-he's an embarrassment to pro football-nothing but a sideshow freak who isn't even that great a player. Pro sports should just start kicking the wife beaters-drunks and drug users out for good. I can see why people don't take their kids to sports events when you have a waste of skin like Terrell Owens to watch. He's a joke-plain and simple but I guess as long as people think that sort of thing is O.K keep paying him his millions and staying tuned for the next gong show. Spitting in someones face isn't 'Just Football' it's BUSH LEAGUE!!!!
