West Virginia Needs A PT. Restriction!!

I wish wv would put a pt. restriction on for the state, other states that have done it seem to be getting more mature bucks, which means better breeding. And i wish the buck limit would lower, right now it's 3 bucks, there's just too many people that kill the smaller bucks with good potential and don't let them grow. This is just wishful thinking because i really can't do much about it... hopefully once i finish school I can finally buy my own land and not have to worry about it.

Well, you can't just snap your fingers and make it happen. But you can let your views be known to the people that make the rules. You can also vote for elected officials who share your ideas on game management and hunting. If you and enough others voice a similar position, things will get changed.

I agree with you be nice to see if we could get one. Just got to get your point to them and theyll finally figure it out.

This past year we started our own stuff 1 buck only and atleast a 4pt. I do my own and wont take anything under a 6pt. We have some good bucks on the farm we never knew were there until we got a trail cam always thought we just had scrubs on my uncles farm but not anymore.

But like you id like to see it come into play. Maybe we should do what texan said.

I'm not a huge fan of point restrictions because in the long run they hurt more than help. However, it sounds like ya'll have the same problem in WV that we have here in NC. Honestly, I believe the first step would be to limit the buck harvest to just one and reevaluate after 5 years. I truly do not see where AR's are needed in any state that have multiple buck limits. If after several years of a one buck limit further change is needed then MAYBE implement AR's but only for 5 years at a max and then go bak to a one buck limit on any antlered deer.

WV needs to change alot of things. I don't know if an antler restriction would work if the genetics aren't there and why have a doe season when the 1st 2 weeks of buck season are buck or doe---give them a chance to settle down before muzzle loader season

No not alot. We are improving slowly. Like you said give them time. They changed how many bucks you can kil here this year or the year before i do know that. The AR would work tho the gentics arent the problem. There are some bigger bucks just people kill all the yearlings im at faught somtimes also before they have a chance to get to any potental at all.

Re: West Virginia Needs A PT. Restriction!!

Somthing that would help more than anything i just thought of this is seperating the state into zones. Other states do this and i think that would manage the herd better. Have different bag limits for different zones. At places you hear everyone complaining there arent no deer some places there are so many does you cant hardly even find a buck. Just a thought.
