Re: help please

You could start by reading the very first post in the shed hunting forum - it gives some good tips on shed hunting in general. In the northern tier states, a majority of the bucks shed in February and March, with some shedding in December, January and April. Shed hunting is a good spring time activity, but some guys follow close on their tails in the snow. I prefer to wait mainly so as to not disturb the animals too much during the most difficult time of year for them. Good luck!

Re: help please

its one of the most addicting things you can do! first off you ahve to look were the deer are, right now I have a piece of paper were I see every deer herd while out coyote hunting, it will make it way easier in the spring! in bad winters or when times are toughter they seem to shed earlier, 3 years ago i found my first shed in late december but there was a ton of snow, the past 2 years it has been after easter, this year we had a super cold spell and really tough rut and I have heard a rancher found a set in his stacks allready! I will be out peekign around this weekend while coyote huntign to see if any in the fields have dropped yet!

If you know were the deer are all you do is walk and glass,I hunt mostly open land and sit on hilltops and glass all the hills around, they like places were they are feeding or trails comign from feedign to bedding areas, don't worry its not easy to see them but in time it will come, sometimes just a glitter or a out of place twig will catch your attention,NEVER leave them without checking couse they will be a shed if you do lol, check every out of place thing you see, walk slow and always look and you will find them as long as the deer were there when they shed! good luck!!

Re: help please

Like sureshot said usually dont start finding a lot till March. However last year I found a big shed on 1-21. Which was really early. Then watch for areas where buck gather. usually feeding and bedding areas as well as the trails to and from those areas are the best. Be prepared to walk A TON of miles. And be patient. We all have went many times and found maybe 1 or 2 or NONE and then there is other days when you can find several. It is very addictive and a great time. GOOD LUCK!!!
