Guest isiaha Posted December 19, 2006 Report Share Posted December 19, 2006 'Santa' Charged With Kidnapping POSTED: 6:12 am EST December 19, 2006 UPDATED: 6:21 am EST December 19, 2006 COLUMBIA, S.C. -- He was dressed as Santa Claus and putting gasoline in his motorcycle at a convenience store when he allegedly asked three young sisters if they wanted to see the stuffed Rudolph in his sidecar. They did. And then, authorities in Columbia allege, John Barton drove off with the oldest girl, who was 8. The girl's father gave chase in his car, driving 80 mph and flashing his lights until he got Barton to pull over and let the girl off. Barton was later found hiding at a nearby bar. The 55-year-old was charged with kidnapping and faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted. The sheriff said Barton had been portraying Santa Claus for several weeks, giving rides to children and posing for photographs with them by his motorcycle.
