nutz4bucks
This post might get moved. thought it best suited here. My question is target practice with bow my kids are 4 and 9 both shoot bows and spend more time looking for arrows than shooting. Is there any kind of a back drop or something you guys suggest to put up to catch or atleast slow the arrow down any imput would be much appreciated thanks

Chrud
Re: Target Practice [ QUOTE ] Bails of hay or straw work nicely .... [/ QUOTE ] If you can get 4 to 6 bales. That'll make a real nice backstop.
Tom2008
Re: Target Practice You may be able to get some thick netting material to hang behind the target that will stop arrows also. Bales of hay is probably the easiest way.

bbarnhart20
Re: Target Practice At our archery club we use a rubber backstop, if you know of any plants with used conveyor belts that are in decent shape they work great. Although there may be some work involved because u'd have to build a wall to attach the rubber to.
Swamphunter
Re: Target Practice Ah heck..just throw that target up agin the side of the house....you'll never have to look for an arrow again. Just kidding...make a target frame with some posts and a few bales of hay. A permanent thing like at the Rod and Gun clubs. Keep the bales up off the ground so they stay drier. Randy
Re: Target Practice If you have any old thick carpet, that will slow them down too.
sskybnd
Re: Target Practice try this take three sheets of 1/2 plywood, make it look like a batters cage place the bails in the center that should slow arrows down if they shoot high or to the side of the bails,
bowin_in_illinois
Re: Target Practice I made a box frame out of 2X4's thats 1 foot deep...make it as high and wide as you like. then i put a tarp on one side of it. i fill the middle with shrink wrap (like they use to to secure loads on pallets) get it filled up good and put a tarp on the other side to hold it in. it does a great job of stopping arrows. tp793
Re: Target Practice try using judo points they will sticl in enough to show you hit but they dont get stuck in the ground
wtnhunt
Re: Target Practice For a bow that is not too fast like a kids bow, the hay should work fine. I however would not suggest shooting a bow that shoots at all fast into a back drop made from a round bail. Have had a few arrows bury in round bails, digging them out is no fun. nutz4bucks
Re: Target Practice Thanks for the advice hay bales make the most sense. both kids shoot mini genesis bows pretty fast i guess. judo points would not work mathews sends arrow that don't have screw in inserts just points. looked at kevlar sheets eeehhh that stuff isn't cheap Thanks again everybody
squirrelyman34
Re: Target Practice a few years back we dug up some saud for guardens and a small shed so what we did was piled it up on the edge of the back yard and its been about 6years now and nothing has went threw it.but ive also got a hay from work and used it. Guest matthews32
Re: Target Practice I would either use bailes of hay or a dirt pile like you use for guns
Brianxt
Re: Target Practice use the mining belt it works great .It will stop a 70 lbs bow with a broad head on it you have to take broad head off to geat it back out of belt. Canuck2
Re: Target Practice If you have a local hot tub business, you might be able to get an old lid from them (c/w vinyl cover). I have used one for years for the beginning kids around here and it's wide & high enough to catch most of the errant shots. For shooters using faster bows, it would have to be in its folded-in-half position rather than opened out.
whitetailkiller
Re: Target Practice [ QUOTE ] Bails of hay or straw work nicely .... [/ QUOTE ] pallets onder them will keep airflow to help speed drying time if the bails get wet!!!!!!!
