Re: Are you happy?

I have had one awsome year so far! My best yet by far! Started bow hunting on September 16th and have learned a lot of stuff from this season. Then rifle hunting was ok, but not as fun as bow. Then my Montana trip came. I shot my first mule deer doe and she was the first doe I shot. THen I got my first shotgun deer and it was a whitetail button buck making that my 4th buck taken. I still have from the 26th to the 31st to hunt with bow. I'll be hunting in Hinckely, MN on 80 acres of land with plenty of deer around. Gonna give it my all for my first bow kill next week!

Re: Are you happy?

I am VERY happy with how mine went...i set out to get my first deer ever and to get my cousin his first one, he got his first during the youth hunt weekend and aslo took a couple up north during gun, and i got mine the 3rd day of gun season...an nice little 7 point...so i got my first deer and first buck outta the way...the only thing i would have to say has been bad about my season is that since we got back form the UP in november for the gun opener, i haven't been able to get out..oh well, i have meat in the freezer!! smile.gif

Re: Are you happy?

My season was aroller coaster. First weekend bow hunting i went to ND and missed a 120 inch buck the second night that was a bummer. then the next night i shot a 90 inch buck. 2 wks later in Minnesota 45min into opening day hit but never found a 130inch deer. saw around 12 pope and young deer this year.

Then gun season rolled around and took my girlfriend out. she shot her first deer (doe) and i shot the fawn with her. saw one buck all weekend. The next friday night sat in the stand for 2 hrs and shot a 130 inch 9pt.

It was an up and down season but i cant complain two deer for the wall and 3 in the freezer.

Re: Are you happy?

I had on ok season here in Virginia. I missed an opportunity on a huge 8 point the opening day of bow season and ruined the rest of it trying to see him again. I finally moved on during ML but didn't see much to get excited about. By Rifle season I started to get a bit burnt out, saw alot of deer including a bunch of bucks on the edge of being mountable. I finally punched a doe and two days later an 8 point hawg with a 19 and a half inch inside spread. I have my buck so now I'll set in on the does. I do have to say that this was probably my most patient season yet. I let alot of bucks walk that I would have shot a few years back. I'm still not sure if it was because of maturity or laziness! I saw 3 hawgs during bow season that would never come in close and hopefully they will make it till next year, if not there are plenty left to grow another year to take their place!

Re: Are you happy?

I'm not too happy this year either. The deer just didn't cooperate for us down on the farm we usually hunt. To many things changed down there this year.

I didn't get out for the first 6 or 7 weeks of the season, and the rut was just miserable with bad weather. I managed to pull 2 deer out of the hat this year, but my buddies didn't do as well, since we usually all fill our tags.

Plus I missed a nice buck with my bow. frown.gif

Re: Are you happy?

I am not happy at all. It has come time for me to hang it up as far as hunting is concerned. Too hard to get these old bones out and about!

The "fire" in the belly is gone and it was not fun at all. I did get a doe early and after that nothing! I just did not enjoy being out and then thinking about getting something and the hassle to go through with the gutting and skinning!

When I got to this point, it is time to quit!

I have had several years of great hunting experiences so I am not complaining at all!

Several years ago, my second cousin told me that he was going to quit hunting. I didn't believe him and asked him "Why"! His reply was that it wasn't fun anymore and he had killed enough!

That is where I am now. I have just killed enough and it is not fun anymore!

So from now on, I am going to putt around in the mountains during the spring and summer months and just enjoy the beautiful scenery and animals as they are just living their lives!

Re: Are you happy?

I am very happy with my season so far. I have only killed one doe in Oct with the bow & missed a nice 8 pointer. Nothing in smoke poll or rifle yet. I have had many a good days just setting in the woods & watching the wildlife. Passed up a bunch of slick heads, This is the 1st season my stepson has hunted with me, so its been a special one. I only hope he gets a buck before its all over this year. He is only 13 put has passed on a bunch of slicks as well. He sure wonts some horns for the wall.

To me its about spending time in the great outdoors & if I get the chance to take a good buck thats just a added plus that the good lord has give me that day.

Re: Are you happy?

I'm happy with my season pretty much. I got a deer, what more could I ask for? This wasn't the best season I've hunted, the deer and forest I hunted were having a bad year on population and health. I still got meat in the freezer and it was a challenge to get, too. I'm hoping the forest recovers a bit by next season so the deer come back in population a bit more. Looking forward to turkey season and next year's hunting season. Next year should be my first archery season if all pans out pre-season. grin.gif

Re: Are you happy?

I suppose I can't complain.I have a little bow hunting left still.I did tag two does with shotgun, but nothing with the bow yet this year. This season has definately not lived up to my expectations though.I never saw a shooter buck in 7 days of gun season, and only saw about 5 all year long so far,and none of them were in bow range.I moved some stands last weekend,so we'll see what happens these next three weeks.

Re: Are you happy?

I'm very happy this year, seen more deer this year than i ever have. I've learned alot from getting advice from people here, knowing where and when to setup, learing from my mistakes, being patient, even harvested my first deer with my bow this year. the season isnt over till the end of january, and after today, i only work 1 day out of the next 10, so yeah i'll be out there........ grin.gif

Re: Are you happy?

For those of you who got to hunt at all, don't complain too much. I, like JimPic, didn't get to go hunting at all this year. It pained me to no end knowing I wasn't going to get out to the mountains and just enjoy that experience. Next year, I'll be out there and quite happy, thank you very much!

Re: Are you happy?

i'm happy with my season as a whole. i always enjoy being out there, and i have been fortunate enough to spend a lot of time in the stand this season. i haven't had a good recovery year, but i have learned from it and i have done a better job this year of at least putting myself in the right spots. i also had a great time taking my daughter out for her first youth shotgun hunt, and first pheasant hunt...and have enjoyed her enthusiasm for the outdoors.
