LeafWiper
Hey guys, im looking for a nice pair of glasses around $300. Ive been trying to decide between the Nikon monarchs or the Leupold cascades. I hunt alot of farm land and need a pair that brings in the most light at prime time around the field edges. They will be mainly used for archery season. Also, what power do you guys recommend. The 8x42's or the 10x42's? Any input is appreciated. I want this to be the last pair of binocs i buy for a while! Thanks!
Bow Hunter Derek
Re: Leupold Vs. Nikon binoculars If you can, look through them both and decide. I have the ATB Monarchs in an 8x42 and love them. I've had them for 3 years now. Not sure if the Cascades were available then. All I know is that I bought mine at the Cabela's store in Dundee. At the time the Nikons were the clearest sub $300 glass that they had. $300 was the cap I put on myself to spend. I've not been disappointed with them. I like the 8x better then 10x where I hunt. I mostly bow hunt in Indiana farm ground, so 10x was not important to me. I can't hold a 10x steady, so I get a much better picture with an 8x. EKYhunter
Re: Leupold Vs. Nikon binoculars Take the advice above. It's right on! Can't beat Nikon Monarchs for price, clarity, warranty, etc.
whitetailtrax
Re: Leupold Vs. Nikon binoculars I have a pair of Wind River (leupold off-shoot) 8x42 and really like them and recommend them. I also have a Leupold Vari XII 3x9 rifle scope and like it also. I don't think you can go wrong with the Leupold optics. I have also owned Nikon optics and been happy with them as well except for a pair of travel lite binos that were horrible. I've also been charged a flat $20.00 fee everytime I've had to send a binocular back to Nikon for repair - that stinks if you ask me. I had the Wind Rivers worked on once because of something I did and there was no charge. I think you will be happy with either, but try to compare them side by side if you can before deciding. Good luck
blacktailslayer
Re: Leupold Vs. Nikon binoculars Ive sent back Nikon bino's to be worked on and it was free every time. I think they stand behind their product.
snapper
Re: Leupold Vs. Nikon binoculars I have a pair of Nikon Monarchs ATB 10X42. They've been through alot and have taken some abuse...but still work great...no complaints. I agree with Whitetailtrax...go to a store and compare them for yourself...you'll be happy with either you choose!
LeafWiper
Re: Leupold Vs. Nikon binoculars Thanks for the help guys. I've compaired them side by side in the store and i really cant tell much difference. Its hard to judge a pair of binoculars inside a store. Does anyone know which one will get a brighter image at dusk and dawn. The 8x or the 10x??
ALAN
Re: Leupold Vs. Nikon binoculars i have the nikon 10x42 monarchs..i think mine get a really good image at dusk
wtnhunt
Re: Leupold Vs. Nikon binoculars The 8 power binos with the same objective will transmit brighter than the 10 power in same glasses. Have a pair of 8X42's, not either of the brands you mention, I use and they are plenty enough for the ranges I am hunting here where shots are typically under 200 yards. maytom
Re: Leupold Vs. Nikon binoculars Be sure to check on the Bushnell Legends. They also make a 8X32 and a 8X42, besides a 10X. I loved the optics more on the Bushnells over the Nikon or Leupolds. And the best part is that they come with their new "Rain Guard" finish and are waterproof as well.
